| Topknot is right on. My dh and I use to show and breed Chinese Shar-Peis and when we first started out we co-owned with a very reputable breeder. It definitely protects her line while we showed the dog. Communication is a must between both parties on what is expected and yes, everything in writing is an absolute must. Would I ever co-own a dog again? You betcha, it was a great experience and we were blessed with a wonderful dog. |

| I still co-own Radar my champion yorkie even though the breeder has signed off on his papers ( I haven't turned them in yet ). I have chosen to keep him as co-owner so "YES" I can make sure he has a say in what goes with any litter Radar sires ect....and YES I will use him being co-owner as a way to handle certain situations I may not have a clear understanding as to what happens AND so he can have a say into where Radar's puppies go. In time I will change it but right now as long as he's in the show ring whether it be in the US or Canada Radar's breeder will stay on as co-owner. they were my first show dogs.Of course now I wouldn't have to co-own with Preston but I believe it would be a great idea for me anyway so he will always have a say in his lines and we keep that bond and trust. Besides they still know more than I and this way I'll always have an out perse with their pedigree and I don't mind "ADMITTING" that I will use it if I have too ![]() Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers | |

| Thank you for this. I am really interested in all that a quality breeder does/deals with. I have yet to be able to pick out my own puppy (my last two have been gifts I DO NOT RECOMMEND surprise pet gift giving ... it's just NOT nice for the new mommy/daddy or the new baby. Sure it is a free cute adorable puppy but that is only one hair that makes up the whole puppy.) So now I'm off to do my research. I really love this forum. I've had more questions answered in the past few days that I've joined than I have in the past 2 years that I've been searching for my future little girl. |
