cord sorted managed. last pup smallest, at 118g, i unsure about last placenta. |
My own opinion is not to do anything yet about the placenta. Pups nursing make Mommy have uterine contractions. So seeing green gunk from their little you know what, is normal. All caused by contractions from the little ones nursing. By tomorrow if you are still that uncomfortable, bring her over to the vet and he'll give her some oxytocin. It usually can be given to a bitch when whelping is done. Kinda like a clean out. I always have it on hand, well had it on hand when I was breeding Goldens. Keep us posted. So she did have a little one hiding in there. There could even be one more. Don't freak out now, I said maybe, lol |
Oh my, just checked back missed it all, 5 puppies? Wow Congratulations. Great job. Looking forward to seeing pics. |

i forgot to tell you all thanks for your help sorry had hectic night, and millie had 4 boys and 1 girl, and the girl is the biggest, it must take after me lol, one little boy very small, i have opened another thread for advice. my husband will put pictures on tonight , thanks to you all again your great x |
I would take her temp to make sure there is no infection starting, you said you were unsure about all the placentas? If her temp gets high, she could have an infection starting and the sooner you deal with that the better. Do it rectally and a helping hand is WAY easier. :) |
her temp is 39.1 i think they have a higher temp in eve compared with morn. it shouldnot be higher than 39.3 so i will check again in morning. She remains panting but she sat on her heat mat, she ok while she leaves them for a few seconds to go toilet. she not ate much today she enjoys the whelp pudding, i read an article which said you should not give calcium even when had pups has it tricks the body in thinking it a large supply and uses double caused by negative feedback in the body, now i am all confused and upset i not know what to give her, i only want to do the best for her |
I feel that the mommas definitely need extra calcium after whelping. I give mine 1/2 a calcium pill twice a day. Often it is necessary to hand feed the mommas after they have pups. They need plenty of food and water so they can produce milk. The heating pad should only cover 1/2 the whelping box so the momma and the puppies can get off of it if they get to hot. If the pups get too hot they can get dehydrated. I use a heating pad that keeps the temperature at 100 degrees. |
yes it only cover half the box, the pups seem happy she wont move off it i have to put bowl under her nose, she enjoy the whelp pud i made the 12 0z then double it wi water she just had the last lot over the 24 hr, is that too much? sorry all these questions but it better than not caring |
Sorry, but I can help with the whelping pudding question because I never use it. Mine mommas are good eaters so I just give them plenty of good quality puppy food. |
whoohoo 5 healthy puppies.. big congrats! i thought millie was finished at 4..glad everything went well.. and as 4 asking all the questions,,ure better to ask and put your mind at ease, just the fact that u even bother to ask shows that youre a super mum to youre millie.x:thumbup: |
How's the pups? Don't worry so much about her eating. She had the placenta's which is suppose to be good for them, yuck. I didn't want to eat after I had my baby. And I only had one! lol |
i hope i be super mum thanks, pups are doing fine the little one i was worried about, wont entertain the bottle for supplement, so i put on teats like someone suggested while the others are asleep, and with great thanks to that ladywhom suggested this he put 9 gram on yesterday, he remains smaller but hopfully he coming on, i tired though i move them to my bedroom then i can put him on teat throughout the night.i will put pictures on tonight, promise |
