Sneaking back on for just a peek.........hooray, 2 pups!! Wish I was home....1 more hour to go. Congrats so far Millie and milliesmum!!! |
pup nu 3 and 4 born will update details shortly, advice needed please no 4th afterbirth |
I am not very experienced, but call your vet. She needs to pass this or olse your at risk for serious infection. I am not sure how long you can give her before the vet needs to step in, maybe a few hours or so, call your vet on that one, mommas can go down hill if they don't pass it. |
The best thing for you to do is take her to the vet and have an Oxcytocin shot given to her. It will shrink the uterus, explelling any lose tissue and/or retained placenta. Did you see if she had eaten it? She could have when you were with the pup. My advice is a vet visit. I was also told it helps with milk production. |
You've had a rough day too, might as well grab a bottle of wine on the way home!:p CONGRATS!!!! |

Congratulations on your new litter. It sounds like everything went well. Sometimes it takes a little while for the last placenta to pass and she may eat it when you are not looking. She will continue to have contractions and the pups nursing her will help with her contractions. My vet has told me it is best to wait 24 hours after delivery before giving the oxytocin shot. Personally I don't give the shot to mine anymore since I had a female have a bad reaction to it one time. |
pup nu 5 hardly any cord coming out it to close to cut any idea no contraction |
The cord is too short? Is the puppy outside of her? If so rip that sack open by her face even if half of her is inside. Once the head is out, it must be ripped open. Also taking a dry paper towel or cloth will help grab hold of the cord easier. Let me know. Don't worry about the 4th placenta yet. |
WOW, I leave for the post office and we have 5 pups. I hope Millie and her pups are doing well. |
Wow, a 5th puppy!!!! Kind of a surprise....I'm guessing you're working on getting the "short cord problem" taken care of. I've had no experiance with that, so I'll just say a little prayer that everything turns out well for you. I'll be anxious to hear how the problem is resolved. Sounds like Millie has been doing great through it all......congrats to all!!! |
Sometimes a puppy will be born with the cord too tight and still inside the mom. I hate it when that happens. I break the sack and dry the pup and just wait a little bit for the placenta to release some. You just have to make sure the mom stays calm and does not jerk around too much. I will also reach up into the vulva and gentle pull on the cord to get more slack. As long as the sack is off the pups head he will be just fine for a little while. I hope all is going well. |
