feeding while pregnant??? My little girl is on day 42 today and looks extremely prego, my question is I have increased her food both in the morning and evening, but she seems still very hungry. I know that you don't want to over feed because of added weight. Should I begin to giver her more, maybe a miday meal? Last week she really didn't want to eat now she seems to wanting to make up for it. I feed her about 1/4 cup of dry with 1 tablespoon of wet in the morning and evening. Thanks Deb

How big is your female? That does not seem like a lot of food for a pregnant momma. I have always free fed mine. I would rather them be a little overweight than underweight because once they have the puppies it will really put a drain on their system. I would definitely start feeding her a little more. Does it look like she is carrying a large litter?

Abby is right at 6.8, 7 lbs. when not preg. I think that she may be carrying a large liter. She didn't start getting this big until she was about 50 days last time and she had 4 puppies then. Don't know if the second time they show sooner or not.

I am glad you asked this question, my girl is on her 40th day and the same thing happened here, last week she barely ate and now she's looking at me with these little hungry eyes... It was good timing for me to see the question.

| Food should not be withheld from a pregnant dog. It can be dangerous. Are you giving puppy food?
