Thanks. This is the first litter for both Bella and me so I am a nervous wreck. We changed the sheets and everything in her whelping bed because she was frantically searching for her baby. This seems to have calmed her down.

The first baby weighed 1.9 ounces.

The second was one was just born still born as well.

Oh no Im so so sorry. I know that has to be so hard for you and so hard for that poor mommy. prayers going out for you both and the remaining pups.
do you know if theres any more. how long had she been in labor? how big is she?

You poor momma's! This is hard on both you and Bella. This is so sad already. I'm hoping the rest come out alright!!

Do you know how many she is having?
are they come out normal? face first or are they breech?
if the next one comes out like that try warming and rubbing it and clean out its mouth and nose. just keep rubbing on it.

Is she having problems with the actual delivery? Are you tearing the sacs? You can try stimulating the pups (the next ones) by rubbing them and clearing their airway. This seems so unusual if they're full term pups. Don't give up on a newborn. You have a few minutes to get them going.

Following birth, if a pup is slow to get going, appears lifeless and if swinging and rubbing briskly with a coarse towel does not work, try a drop of Brandy on the tongue. Or try alternating the puppy in bowls of hot water and cold water. Fill 2 bowls with water--one from the hot tap and one from the cold tap. Immerse the puppy first in one pan and then in the other (to the neck). I have used this method successfully over the years on several occasions, with seemingly dead puppies and it has worked! The idea is to shock the system into taking that first breath. Do it about 10 times. If it works, towel dry the puppy vigorously until he is breathing normally and then put him with the dam. Sometimes there isn't time to fill water dishes and with a lifeless puppy, time is of the essence. In a case such as this, hold the puppy under the water faucet with alternating cold and hot water -- as hot and as cold as is safe. Also try artificial respiration by laying the puppy on his back and blowing gently into his mouth (pull the tongue forward), while alternating with applied pressure on the puppy's chest. Continue rubbing briskly. Don't give up on a lifeless pup if the color is good. It is possible to revive a seemingly dead puppy up to 20 minutes after delivery. Do not waste time on obviously defective pups.

I have never heard of alternating the puppy in bowls of hot water and cold water. But I have heard of every thing else in your post.

here's another cut and paste that may help...Also if a puppy sounds congested, and swinging and rubbing briskly do not do the trick, try a baby ear syringe. This is especially good for clearing throat and nasal passages. Make sure the bulb is deflated (pressed flat) before inserting gently into the back of the throat area. Release the bulb slowly to remove any fluid or mucus. Following the throat area, do the same action in the nostrils. While this has been useful, I still prefer swinging the puppy for clearing deep congestion. Though there is some controversy regarding the act of swinging, there is an art to it and I have never done any damage to a puppy by doing it carefully. The key is to holding the neck and head area firmly against the palm of the hand and swing down gently....but firmly

Ihave done everythign listed except the hot and cold water thing. I will try that with the next baby.

Is she right on her due date? I would call a vet and ask about the the cold and hot water first. I have never heard of it. you think that would make a newborn sick, but I dont know, id call and ask a vet.

I would guess it's to shock the system into life. I would try the other methods first but as, a last resort, I would try it. You can't kill a dead puppy. This is so sad....I'm praying too for the next one.

just get the sac off quickly...it may be several 'layers'..and get the baby's lungs cleared and stimulate with a towel. Are you cutting the cord so you can get to the baby? You don't need to wait for Mom to mess around with it. First, get the sac torn and then get the cord cut so you can handle the baby...

Hows Bella doing?

I am tearing the sacks and clamping and cutting the cord. Then I rub the babies with towels rather briskly and suctioning them as well. I have tried swinging them several times holding them rather firmly. We are working on these babies like crazy. If all else fails I will try the water trick. I called the emergency vet and she thinks it is because she was about 3 days late. She said that being late is not good.

Bella is delivering like a champ just as the vet thought she would. She is running all over right now trying to find her babies. I have been giving her Nutrical and Science Diet A/D to make sure she has enough energy.

I feel so badly for you now. Try and stay calm and just do your best and don't give up.....praying for a good outcome. Has she had another?

Not yet. It was about 3 hours in between the first two.
