4 day old puppy questions My Sophie girl has 4 puppies. She ate 2 of the four placentas, and had stomach upset, diareha and vomiting (twice) for two days. She's eating now, but spent an hour this AM going in and out of the house, not wanting to nurse her crying puppies. Everytime she goes outside, she checks the spot that she had chossen to whelp (behind a bush). If she ignores the puppies again, how long do I wait until I step in to take over feeding. I've never had this happen before, I was upset. Thanks, Cheryl

I don't have an answer for you, just a question... She had them under a bush? I have heard of that happening but that's crazy. Did you have to move them all in or catch her before that all happened?

It is possible there is still a puppy in there, Did you have her vet checked yet? Alot of times when they act like that it is because there is still apuppy left. Another reason could be that she doesn't feel where the puppies are is safe. Is that possible? They don't like having them right out in the middle of everything. They like a quite spot with no commotion.... Maybe she thinks nobody will find them if she goes out behind the bush. Be careful because if there is a way she can take them outside she may try to hide them.

| laura: Thanks for the reply. I did not have her vet checked, I will do that today. She is in a playpen with the puppies so she can't take them outside. I have moved the playpen from the livingroom to the familyroom so that I could keep a closes watch. In the evening (family is home) it is noisy. Maybe i'm making her nervous, "hovering" too much. | Got back from the vet's. No retained puppy, all is fine. I'll make the changes to make her feel like her puppies are safe. Cheryl |

Hi Laura, She is still having some pre-whelping behavior. I think that I confused her by wheeling the playpen into different rooms. She's calm and attending to the pups today. Thanks for your help. Cheryl
