| New to YorkieTalk - Expecting puppies Hello, This is my first day posting to YorkieTalk.com. I am just thrilled to have found this website and look forward to hearing from other Yorkie lovers! We have three Yorkies (Toto, Gizmo and Penelope). Penelope was abandoned last November and a friend of our daughter's found her wandering out on a country road. After placing posters up all over the area and placing ads in newspapers, no one claimed her. So...since we had two yorkies, she thought we might want another one. Toto and Gizmo are both males and to be honest, we did not want another one. Right before Christmas the girl showed up at our door with Penelope (we did name her). Our hearts just went out to her. She seemed so sad and distant. Not perky like our others. To make a long story short, she and Gizmo are expecting puppies on February 28th. I have read several posts and it is so nice to get information from experts that have dealt with the whelping process. We are getting the area ready for the birth of the puppies. Last week she started nesting and appears to be getting ready. My question to you experts: We know she and Gizmo tied up on January 1st, but they possibly could have in December while we were out of town on Christmas break. Not sure how all this works. We've never had a female. Could she be further along than what we are anticipating? Also, we do know she has had at least 2 litters of puppies and my intentions after these are born is to have her spayed. Do you feel this is a good decision on our part? Our vet thinks she was in a puppy mill situation. Thanks for any advice. |

| Welcome. Glad you are here - you will find a great deal of info here & wonderful people. Yes, I would definitely have her spayed. While I am sure they will be beautiful sweet puppies, part of breeding should insure bettering the breed - that involves meeting many standards for the yorkshire and also AKC registration. There is a great deal of good information on whelping in the breeder section
