| Whelping Supplies is Vaseline OK, or must be KY? We are expecting a litter of 5, 6, or 7 pups, within the next day or two. Yes, we had an X-Ray done, and the doctor said "definitely see 5, possibly 6, MAYBE 7" I think I could've guessed that based on her size. My question is, on our previous litters we used KY Jelly just in case, and have used to help Mom out, but mysteriously we now have an EMPTY BOX and the KY is missing! LOL! We have a whole tub of vaseline that we've been using for temperature checks. I did a search on the internet and ONE site says use KY or water based lubricant (NEVER use vaseline or mineral oil) other sites say to have a lubricant such as Vaseline on hand. So I am not sure.....is the vaseline OK, or should we run out and get the KY? Thanks In Advance! Audrey |

| Vaseline has petroleum, which contains bacteria. KY is void of bacteria....great to use for taking puppy temps too.

| Thank you for that information. I was unsure because of the mixed info online, and couldn't figure out why vaseline would be bad. Thanks for explaining it. |

| KY Contains water Water kills sperm. The body fluids asre saline based. Salt attracts water. Even a drop of water will upset the saline/water content of the sperm. Lubricants such as KY Jeller will kill sperm. It is water based. People have used it forever, but whenever sperm caminto contact with it, the sperm died. Plain and simple. Latex will also kill sperm. Using Laytex gloves will cause the demise of sperm. Use silicone or plastic. Detergents, soaps and bleach will also kill sperm. |
