help Being ripped off by breeder please give suggestions hello i purchased a yorkie a few months ago from a breeder online and i been having problems with this woman ever since. she advertised and told me my dog will be ready to come home on christmas. so i purchased him in full for a christmas gift for my boyfriend. when christmas came i called her ready to get the flight information and she told me he is just too small to send right now i asked why she didnt tell me earlier but its fine i just want him health and asked her to send me pictures atleast for christmas. I never received the pictures for christmas ether so i had to call her again and bug her to send pictures. then searching the web i found the same pictures she sent me on another site selling yorkies i called her and asked her very nicely about the pictures and she got very defensive saying she felt offended that i asked her. how funny. well today i called her asking when he will be ready and she said she just took him to the vet and they cleared him and will be ready to go home on tuesday. but she said she would need an extra 200 for the flight when i already paid her 160 she told me the prices went up. i called the airlines and found out that the price did not change. so when i called her to tell her i found out that the flight prices didnt go up she completely dropped that and started raising her voice with me when i have been completely patient and nice to this woman. she told me i needed to pay for a vet visit and the health certificate for the dog to fly. But i already paid for all that in full when i purchased the dog. it clearly states it on her site that the puppy comes with all that stuff. she got very rude with me telling me I NEED TO PAY or i wont get the dog. And would not explain why i needed to pay for it again she just kept going on about how small the dog is idk what to do i need suggestions. |
I am so sorry you are going through this. I would document all communication with this woman and call a lawyer and have him speak to her on your behalf before this gets any worse. I am sorry I can't be more help this is just horrible how people can be so greedy and deceiving. |
How did you pay ? by credit card? I would call the credit card company and tell them that you did not receive your "product" (the dog) and that you refuse to pay for it. They will do an investigation. Give them all the information they need to contact her. Maybe under a little pressure she will give your money back . Unfortunately i believe there is no dog....she is just stealing money from you. |
I am sorry you feel you are being ripped but I did want to address what you said about airline fares not going up. I cannot ship a dog for less than $300. I don't know where you got your airline info but i can tell you that if you go Delta, in cabin, you will pay 150. if the dog is traveling alone and going ion Cargo, it iss anywhere from $170-190. for the airfare alone. I recently paidd 193. on Delta cargo and the other two biggies are even more expensive. North West and Continental. I am shipping two on Thursday in two crates and the fare is $261. Now, I ask you, should the breeder simply do away with the other charges? Besides the actual airfare, the breeder will have to purchase a shipping crate for about thirty dollars and pay for a health certificate that can be anywhere from forty dollars on up. So you have no right to complain about her asking for more shipping money. oh and did I mention that breeders travel sometimes over an hour each way to get to the airport. I know I do and that takes gas money. But as far as the other stuff, I am sorry you have been treated this way. I just felt I had to address the shipping part since I am a breeder and ship on a regular basis. |

The 261 that is being paid for these two to fly is being paid by someone else BUT, I will be spending approx. $75. at the vet tomorrow for health certificates and updated rabies shots plus buying two shipping crates. So you see, it all adds up. I am in no way taking up for this breeder just addressing your comment about shipping being only $160.and yes, when you advertise on certain websites, it askss the one selling the dog if travel crates, health certificates and etc comes with the dog. But it does not mean they are included in the price of the dog unless the words "shipping included in price" are there. |

I have all her emails. I got my information about the flight from the airline she is going to use wich is continental and one way shipping is 160. The dogs crate, vet bills, vaccinations and health certificate all came with the dog as it says on her site. idk if i should just give her the money or start doing something before this gets bad she is just a horrible person to speak with just so rude. i am a non confrontational person and i put up with the fake picture she sent me and not sending me a picture for christmas when i was supposed to have him for christmas. its just wrong and about the plane flight when i told her i talked to continental she completely dropped it and started off about the extra vet bill and the health certificate and she would not explain why in needed to pay for it again when i already did she just said i need to pay or i wont get my dog. i feel that there is a dog and i dont think she is going to scam me out a dog but she is trying to scam me out extra money. i would have never purchased this dog if i knew he would have not been ready to go home on christmas. she advertised him as ready to go home on christmas and my whole christmas was ruined. And she never said one thing that there is a possibility he will be to small to come home. Idk |

There are huge red flags here. If you do get a puppy, it might be very sick or have life threatening genetic conditions that may not show up for years. You could be looking at a fortune in vet bills if you take this puppy. I would try to get out of this deal even if you lose a few hundred dollars. Where did you find this breeder? Buying a puppy "cold" on the internet is very risky. |
I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I hope she does have your puppy. Maybe if you tell her you are going to fly in and pick him up you will get a feel for if she really has your puppy or not. Do you feel she is a reputable breeder? I would be concerned that there is no puppy andif there is how cooperative she will be if you should run into any health issues. I also would call her and say if you don't have the puppy by Tuesday or a full refund you will have your lawyer contact her. It just sounds so fishy to me, I hope it works out for you. |
i found her over the internet i know it was risky but there is just no place where i live to get a yorkie. i have done my research beforehand and there was nothing about her and i have purchased yorkies before over the internet and had no problems. i used paypal. i dont wanna mention the website just yet but i sure will if i dont get my dog or if its sick. or if she tries something else crazy. |
What method of payment did you use for puppy? |
i will i wont let her get away with somethin like this. im gonna give her to tuesday and im gonna get his flight info before i send her the money otherwise she is not getting anything else from me beside alot of bad press and a phone call from my lawyer. i can not deal with this rude woman anymore i have been nothing but patient with her. And i am really worried something is gonna be wrong with the lil guy and im gonna have to deal with her some more all i know is she is messing with the wrong person. i will not just let this go and all your support really helps thanks everyone |
Personally I would be filing a dispute with paypal in an attempt to recover the money and I'd continue searching for another puppy. Good luck. |

First i would NEVER buy a pet over the internet withouit actually seeing the pet...Thats silly especially if u do not know this person... Second..i would go get the pet and take the pet ith me on the flight in the cabin NOT CARGO for such a little one... I would save myself more greivances and Plant my Ass at the breeder to get the dog or the money... |
she is now advertising that puppies are ready to go home on valentines day hmm yea right if anyone is buying a dog for valentines day just be careful i thought i was but you just never know. |

I've heard many wonderful stories of people purchasing their dogs off of the internet. I have also heard of many scams. I wouldn't say that buying off of the internet is completely out of the question, you just have to take extra precautions. I hope you get your situation sorted out soon! Keep us informed :) |
I bought my daughter's silky terrier online and I have to say it was a very nice and pleasant experience, but I did research the breeder very well, also I paid thru Paypal with my credit card, just to protect me, if anything was wrong with the pup I could always reverse the charges and file a claim with paypal.. I also took the pup to the vet the monday after she arrived, she flew home American cargo, I also made sure it was in the fall and when is NOT too hot or too cold she flew all the way from Missouri to Newark NJ, she arrived on saturday afternoon. buying online can be a very tricky way of shopping you have to take all the measurements to protect yourself, but then again is like catalog shopping is always a risk...Best of luck with your situation, hope you can resolve it soon.. hugs, CAmren in nj |

I am sorry you have to start your hopeful Yorkie ownership with so much stress and disappointment. It sure puts a damper on what should be a happy time. Have you asked her for the name of the vet? You may be call the vet and find out something about the pup (if he exists) or the breeder. Would you want to put the breeders name and location on YT in case one of the members here lives near her and can check things out for you? Members here also know how to find out if breeders are legitimate. Do you have an actual signed contract or written receipt stating the conditions of the sale? What is the present age and weight of this pup? I personally would be very concerned about sending any pup on a flight, especially during the freezing weather you are having now. |
Yes to me it is an irresponsible buyer to buy on the internet..there are so many scams and how could u trust a stranger that u are getting a healthy pup if u have not seen where it came from ? how healthy are the parents of the pup.. To me u are just asking for a problem in this type of circumstance.. This is just my opinion and I would not want to be in this situation, so i would avoid it for myself.. I know many very reputable breeders sell their pups and retired show dogs for a very reasonable price to the right homes.. as their interest is in the dogs well being and getting a good home, not really the money ... |
did u check this list in the sticky before ur dealing with this breeder : AKC suspension index maybe u could find them there ? and decide what to do .... |

no i did not check that i dont see anything on it though. the puppy is almost a pound she told me he needed to be atleast a pound to fly. |
I wish you a lot of luck to resolve this. I have met many folks being on line. I have my buyers checked every which way I can, and expect them to do the same for me. So far, we have met almost everyone of our buyers face-to-face, when they come pick up their puppy at the airport or at my home. So I guess, if that is the puppy you want, go and get it. |

Just a HUGE RISK too me not too mention the heartache it would cause ! |

A pound seems very small to fly, the minimum age is 12 weeks, but some breeders keep them longer if they are this small. They would never consider flying a dog this small, hypoglycemia is too big of a risk. Something's very fishy. |
