I told Erin the dog does not come with AKC papers before she bought the dog. She said that didn't matter to her. The reason she did not get AKC papers is in case she tried to resale the dog for more money. She only paid $500 for a one year old yorkie female, that had already been spayed, had her dental done, and all of her shots. I am looking at the signed contract and guess I should display it on here so everyone can see she is not telling the truth. I try very hard to get the best homes possible for my dogs but sometimes someone will slip though that you wish you had not sold to, which is the case here. I only hope she will take good care of the sweet little dog.

you need to add a clause in your contract that entitles you to re-po the dog if things come to light that you were lied to or the dog is not being cared for and etc. I have re-po'd a couple of my dogs.

This is easy. All bubbaboo or Karen's Yorkies need to do is post invoices from the vets. In bubbaboo's case, post the $200 bill. It should list what costs what right on it.

I'm a little uncomfortable with that because there are unethical breeders out there that could really hurt someone they didn't like. If there are differences and the breeder is less than honest then they can just go get your dog :confused: I'm afraid to even have that on here because some people wouldn't even bother to read a contract. I'm not saying Karen's Yorkies would do that because I know nothing of her but there are a lot of different people breeding and it's scarey to give them that kind of authority to decide if you are fit to keep the dog you bought from them, yikes! People sometimes get a dog and don't realize how all this works....scarey to think that a breeder could just come take your dog! If a dog is being mistreated it should be left up to Animal Control or a court to decide. I'm not saying this directly to you Sugar's mom because I've heard on many posts that members feel you are reputable. Just a general statement because there are too many unethical breeders out there. Can you imagine some puppy mill adding that to a contract...another problem would arise with that for sure.

puppymills are not going to add it to a contract because they don't give a rat's butt as long as they get their money. I would not sell a dog to anyone without that clause. i have even returned deposits to people when I found out they had misrepresented themselves on my application. believe me, I would not hesitate to take one of my dogs back. I have done it and didn't blink an eye. people know on this board that when they get one of my puppies, they had better be on the up and up with me because i don't play around where my precious littles are concerned. My people DO read the contract. I make sure of it and even go over it with them in case they don't understand it. i have sold 22 puppies on Yt over the past three years and so far have not had any problems except finding out one person lied thru their teeth on their application. needless to say, that person did not get one of my puppies. the ones I repo'd were local. When you have been breeding as long as I have with many satisfied clients and know you put out quality pups you can be very selective where your pups go. Sorry but i don't cave to anyone. if more breeders were like that, there would be fewer problems. to me these little touches is what separates the good breeders from the bad. First and foremost, my puppy comes first. WITH PROOF that puppy was beinf mistreated, i would move it in a heartbeat. Honest breeders are going to require proof. Then there are those buyers that will claim anything about a puppy trying to cheat the breeder so you see, it works both ways. personally, I wish we could put all the dishonest ones out of business. As ethical breeders we shouldn't even be selling to people that "get a dog without realizing how it works" as you say.

Again, I wasn't speaking directly to you or about you just the possible problems with putting that in a contract by people who are not reputable. I do think puppy mill people would be glad to put something like that in their contract...

was that some people who get a dog and have spoke to the breeder would choose not to read a lenghty contract with the excitement of picking up a new puppy and trusting the breeder. Wouldn't be the first time. I understand it's stupid but someone in the business and who does want to scam someone could...it just adds another dimension to the never ending problems with puppy mills. Even smaller in home puppy mills. They could even threaten to take the puppy back if the purchaser gives them a hard time with legitimate problems. Just a thought. Not every breeder does the right thing as you state you do. I know you're different...but there are too many not so caring breeders who lie as it is, never mind giving them all that control to someone who doesn't really care and just interested in covering their butts or having leverage!!!

Also like to point out that some breeders don't advertise their contract on a website like Karen's Yorkies so you don't know about it until you get there type of thing.

My contract does have several clauses in it that will allow me to take back a puppy. It was drafted by a lawyer and will hold up in a court of law. A few things that are mentioned is; puppy must be in a climate controlled environment, never be chained outdoors, unauthorized breeding (since all my dogs are placed with limited registration) I will confiscate the dog and the litter.

Since my new families have a copy of the contract 4 to 6 weeks prior to their picking up their puppy. The have ample time to read it and sign it. Then of course all my families are all placed in families of people that I know and in close proximity to where I live.

Animal Control has no jurisdiction of the above mentioned. All they care is that the dogs are fed, kept clean, have rabies and are licensed.

That makes sense coming from you. I haven't been around that long but I know you're not a puppy mill. It's just scarey to think what could happen if someone who's not looking out for the dog and only themselves and puts that in a contract. I defineately wasn't talking about a good breeder, the other kind.

By no means am I a puppy mill. Not with breeding maybe 1 to 2 litters a year on the average. I hate breeding....it's something I do reluctantly, and with great thought. I'm just too aware of the things that can go wrong and it scares the ???? out of me.

Contracts such as stated above are put in place for; first the protection of the dog, the new family (what I mentioned above is only a small snipet of what's in my contract) and of course my lines.

It's very odd to me when people come on here either raving about a certain breeder or ranting about them. And then the "stories." I'm not too sure who to believe, so I try to stay out of these arguments...

This is exactly how I feel. I have learned thru the years what all goes wrong. I change my contracts sometimes weekely as things happen. LOL My puppies come first and like you, there is no chance of my puppies going to families that don't have a clue of how to care for them or what to expect. I have let one or two slip thru the cracks on me and have learned that people will lie to get puppies from uss. people we would otherwise trust.

A written agreement stating giving the you the right to first refusal would have solved the problem of her reselling the dog.

In any case, I'm not sure what happened in this particular case, and quite frankly, I don't care. To me, this sounds like an instance where one person got made at the other and decided to air their dirty laundry on a public site in an attempt to try to smear the other person's name. IMO, this is a matter that should be handled between the two parties privately, not something that YT members need to be dragged into.

Yeah, it's an ongoing trend...happens all the time. New member comes on to bash/defend a breeder and then is never heard from again.
