Has anyone heard of Karen's Yorkies? I am thinking about purchasing one from her but I wanted to check with you all to see if you heard or have experienced purchasing a yorkie from her. |
She has really pretty babies! The prices are reasonable for a very good quality puppy. Good luck! |
She does have pretty babies and beautiful stock, although I was a bit put off with HOW MANY Moms she has. I would never agree to her contract tho. I agree her prices are reasonable |

Also she has at the top that the pups have a 6 month guarantee, but the contract says 12 months...you might want to ask which it is and get her to clarify why they say two different things. |
She is in colorado springs right? Well i do too. Anyways i think she is way overpriced for what she is selling, sure her dogs are nice but for the prices they should be sold on full registration to the right home. If they are required to be spayed/neutered(which they are) then they should be sold for pet prices. She does seem to have a lot of dogs too, so personally i would never buy from her. Plus when i contacted her a long time ago she was quite rude. |

Wow! 1. 30 females and 10 males? 2. 48 hours to have a puppy examined (by two different vets if a problem arises)? 3. Her contract counterdics itself about the length of her guarantee? 4. The fact that the only necropsy results she will accept are those from Tx Med.Diag. Labs in my eyes is just a cover up so that the pup won't have to be replaced. Now heres my reasons for these comments, please keep in mind these are just my opinions 1. That is a lot of Yorkies, I have 9 and of those only three are breeder females. I have three males, one is neutered and a pet, one is a pet and my main stud (also my service dog who alerts me to Sycopy attacks) and the third is my future hopeful for a stud and a pet. With 40 adults how does this breeder give each dog the individual attention that they need on a daily basis to be well adjusted dogs. Now add the puppies, even at just two puppies per litter and only breeding 10 of her females once a year thats another twenty Yorkies. Don't get me wrong I love Yorkies as much as the next person but hey, there is NO WAY on earth that you or anyone for that matter can give 60 dogs individual attention on a daily basis and still get everything done that is needed to run a smooth, clean and healthy program. And thats figuring giving each dog just 20 minutes of attention a day. That comes out to twenty hours aday just for attention, when would you find time for cleaning and feeding not to mention grooming and health care needs. In my own mind on this alone I would have to wonder, is the puppy well socialized? 2. This is not enough time in my eyes, I give my adopters four business days from the time they pick their puppy up. And why would the adopter have to have the puppy checked by two different vets within 48 hours? If the puppy was healthy when he/she left the breeder than one vet check up should be good. It sounds to me like this breeder is just trying to set it up so that the buyer won't have much of a chance if the puppy should become ill and need to be replaced. 3. How long is her guarantee really for and what does it truely cover? Having two different lengths of one contract could possibly make it hard for the adopter to come back on a contract. Depending on the health condition the breeder could say that one condition was only covered for six months while some other health issue is covered for 12 months. Here I am going to say "buyer beware". This could just be an over site on the breeders part, but if it is brought to the breeders attention and then isn't corrected you can bet that something isn't right. 4. What happens if the adopter is from out of state or even from somewhere like Canada? How do they get this survice done at this facility? I understand wanting a necropsy done as I have that in my contract as well, but I also realize that certain conditions call for special circumstances. As long as the place doing the necropsy is reputable and in good standing with the AMVA I will accept their reports. Once I recieve them I send them to my personal vet to have them gone over with me so I fully understand them. In demanding that all necropsies are done at the Tx. Medical Diag. Labs this breeder AGAIN is covering any chance of having to stand behind her contract. I don't know many people who can make arrangement to send a dogs body to Tx. if they live in say Idaho or Canada. That would end up getting alittle pricey to say the least. You would have to have your vet package the body for shipping and then special shipping arrangements would have to be made with the airline. This is just another reason that I would again say "buyer beware" These are just the ramblings and opinions of me... a very small Yorkie breeder nothing more nothing less. |
The prices look high to me, heck, I could get another biewer for what she's charging for some of hers |
I wanted to add, that if you do decide to go with her. write down the things that have been addressed here and ask her about them. A good reputable breeder will not be offended and will answer your concerns honestly. Make sure you are in complete agreement with the contract or ask her to change it until you both are happy with it. |
Thanks so much guys, I will keep looking. You are all very helpful. Merry Christmas.............. |
OH my gosh! I bought my pup from her! I live in Texas. The puppy is now eight months old. She was really sweet, She just wants to make sure they get a good home that is for sure. She asked me up front if I had the time to spend to make this yorkie a good home! IT was a really great experience and I am considering buying another from her. She is state licensed and has a great reputation, trust me I did my research! Anywho good luck on your search. It took me a year to find the perfect one! :aimeeyork |
I'm a small breeder in Colorado (only a female and male, both are family pets) and have looked at Karen's dogs. She has very nice looking dogs and has been friendly with me, but what put me off was her condradictions in her contracts and her prices. I have bought both my yorkies from breeders in MO (I did my research, and neither place was a puppy mill). If you still decide to go with Karen please have her clear up her contract for you so it is more reasonable. |
Is this the name of her website.. karen's... just curious for I do not know who she is ... just curious now and would like to look at her website... Hope you get a contract your happy with and you find the perfect baby.. anne |

Bad Experience with Karen's Yorkies I am posting this to warn yorkie lovers that are looking for a pup. I would advise to stay away from Karen's Yorkies. We had a horrible experience buying a dog from her. We purchased a dog from her and when we brought the dog home we became quickly concerned. The dog appeared to us that there was a lack of grooming, hygiene and health needs that weren't being addressed. The dog was matted with knots all through her coat. It took 2 hours brushing and cutting them out. Her nails were so long. Her ears were full of dirt and they smelled horrible. I took her to groomers and had her cleaned up. We were shocked at how a breeder would pass a pup off to buyers in this condition. We then took her to the Vet to have a check up and see what vaccines were needed, heartworm screen ( she was not on any heartworm meds and over 1 year old) and rabbies vaccine. The Veterinarian was very concerned about her ears. They cultured her ears and were told she had a severe bilateral ear infection! She could have lost her hearing! A 10 day course of antibiotics ( Gentamicin) was required to clear up the infection. The bill was over $200! We were told by Karen that this pup was a shy dog, but it appears to be more than that. The Vet said she was not abused, but has never been socialized. She is very timid, skittish, nervous and terrified of men. It takes sitting down and holding her to calm her down. She has improved some, but just with me. Any men, guests or even my husband at times she is hovering to the ground and running away. She also has a very nervous pace that still concerns us. The worst thing is she has NEVER wagged her tail! It is so sad to us that we are waiting every day to see her tail wag! The day that she does we will be ecstatic! We had posted a thread a few weeks ago and had to have it deleted. We got a phone call from Karen's Yorkies telling us that if we did not delete the post we would be suied for $250,000 for Slander! We were also told we would be getting a letter from their lawyer if it wasn't removed in 3 days! Our previous post was not slander, just strong opinions. We have now posted strickly facts to warn others. Hope this helps others |

And if it's fact, it's not slander!!!! Welcome to YT!!! Wish you all the best with your little one. Please stick around. There is lots of support and information here! :D |
We love Karen's Yorkies We researched the breed and breeders before purchasing a yorkie. We ended up purchasing two yorkies from Karen's Yorkies, about one year apart, and we couldn't be happier. She came highly recommended, and her puppies were beautiful with wonderful personalities. We've found Karen to be an extremely conscientious breeder who loves her dogs and who pours a great deal of time and care into her puppies. It is clearly a passion for her and her husband. Karen was also great about helping us select the right dog for our situation. She asked us great questions to ensure that we were prepared, and she met us on multiple occasions to allow us to see and handle puppies prior to purchase. Whenever we had questions, she took the time to answer them and followed up with us. Our yorkies have been such a joy for us. They are healthy, happy, beautiful and have the best dispositions. If I were to buy another yorkie, I'd buy the puppy from Karen. Whenever anybody asks me about yorkie breeders, I send them to Karen. I couldn't offer a higher personal recommendation. Karens Yorkie Reply I don't normally reply to someone’s outrageous post, but the post that says I sold a one year old with mats in her hair is so ridiculous I couldn't resist. The dog that was purchased did not have mats in her hair. I bathed and brushed the dog the night before I sold her, like I always do on any of my dogs. I had the dog spayed, had her teeth cleaned, and a vet check up just before she was sold. The dog was a beautiful little girl but what happened was the lady came and bought the dog without her newlywed husband, and he didn’t like the dog because he wasn't included in the decision. That is not my fault. I was very patient with this lady and told her all about the dog because I wanted to make sure she felt good about getting one that was one year old, and she said that was exactly what she was looking for. I even have an email stating how happy she was with the new dog. Anyone that has bought from me knows how much love and care goes into each dog. Also, I am a state licensed, state inspected, and AKC inspected facility. I am not out to hurt or scam anyone, that is not why I raise these beautiful dogs. You can tell by my website that my dogs are well taken care of and I have dedicated my life to this breed. |
I have also bought yorkies in the past from Karen. I bought one a couple of years ago and was so pleased I came back and bought my second baby from her. She is a very sweet and knows her stuff. I have called her many times with questions and she has been very good to answer them all! The pups were very sweet and beautiful! I had them vet checked as soon as I recieved them and they were very healthy! I will post pics later of my babies! I just hate it when someone slanders someone who doesnt deserve it. It is so evident that her life revolves around her yorkies. That is the kind of person to buy a yorkie from. A person that cares about the breed and dedicates their self to bettering the breed. I recommend her to anyone in the market for a new baby to love. So before making judgement on someone elses slander, her pics on her website speak for themself. She has gorgeous dogs and gorgeous puppies and I am a proud owner of two! Thanks Karen!:animal-pa |

I am responding at what Karen has written towards my post. Again, I will state all FACTS. #1. The dog did have mats throughout her coat that I did have to cut out. It took 2 hours to have her completely brushed out. #2. The dog was spayed a few days before we picked her up, however Karen could not and should not have bathed her. I was told by Karen to NOT bathe her for a few days due to her stitches that could not get wet. So, she shouldn't have bathed her per her recommendations. I took her to the groomers as recommended after about a week after purchasing her. She should have at least had all knots and mats brushed out before selling her to us. #3. If the dog was checked out by a Vet, then why wasn't she placed on antibiotics for the severe bilateral ear infection she was given to us with. Also, our vet said she has inflammation to her gums. I am now brushing her teeth several times a week to reverse the damage. #4. The next statement I must address and clear up is about my Husband. The comment about him being upset about the dog and not being involved is a straight LIE! Karen has absolutely no idea what my Husband and I discussed about getting the dog. He was and is very supportive about the decision to get her. It was his idea to get a second dog. We love the dog very much. He was just as concerned about the dogs behavior as I was. Yes, he was included in the decision. I have no idea why Karen would even post such an untrue statement. #5. The email I sent her was questioning the dogs behavior and if she was abused or mistreated. We wanted more information about why she is so skittish, nervous and timid. The dog basically appears to have never been socialized according to our Vet. #6. One odd thing to mention and to let others know. We were never given AKC papers on her. I never thought to ask since we don't really care much about that stuff. We do not tend to show her, but others should really think to ask about receiving papers if it is important to them. I just think it is odd Karen didn't include it in the purchase. We love Sophie so much and she has a wonderful home here along with a great playmate! She is doing better each day and occasionally see her tail wag! We feel like we saved one and feel so great about that! |

I am sorry but that sounds very far fetched to me. I have a very pleasant transaction with Karen. Her dogs are beautiful! She knows so much about the breed, I can guarantee you that she would never let a dog get in this kind of condition. She loves and cares to much about her dogs. That is all she does is her dogs. Everytiime I called Karen she was with her dogs. When I bought my puppies from her it proved how much she cares for her dogs because those puppies adored her. I once had a small dog who was skittish. Dogs have different personalities. My baby was never abused just shy. People can be shy to. I really dont like the slander that I am reading. Especially when I see how much she really cares for her dogs. You can say what you want, I will believe what I KNOW. I know she takes excellent care of her dogs. I will continue buying my dogs from Karen. |
Oh and on your AKC papers? Why in the world are you worried about the papers, when your dog is spayed. You are trying to say her dogs are not akc because she didnt send you papers. That is quite ridiculous. Both of mine =received their akc papers after I had them spayed. Good breeders= breeders who better the breed. That is what Karen does. She knows her dogs. She was so helpful in getting me the perfect pups for my family. SHE had to know her dogs to match us with our babies so well. |

I understand that but she wrote #6. One odd thing to mention and to let others know. We were never given AKC papers on her. I never thought to ask since we don't really care much about that stuff. We do not tend to show her, but others should really think to ask about receiving papers if it is important to them. I just think it is odd Karen didn't include it in the purchase. She said she didnt ask for them. I am sure if she were to ask she would have gotten them. It is not my business about that I am just stating the dealings I had with Karen's Yorkies was awesome and I cannot believe the slander that I am reading on here. I bought dogs from her and this upset me, I can only imagine how she feels about this since she puts so much time and work in her dogs. It is rather rude. |
I realize what she wrote. I was responding to your comment that followed: Quote:

Also anyone with common sense knows that when a dog or person has their teeth done there will be swelling. I had my babies teeth cleaned and there was some swelling. |

In regards to THIS case, I understand your point--why complain about something if it was never asked about beforehand and there were no efforts to procure it. I have no idea what really happened in this specific case, but if one was never promised the papers and never asked about them, then they have no reason to complain. However, generally speaking, this instance aside, wanting papers on a spayed dog is a completely valid concern, so I don't think that is a valid argument. |
No actually I agree with you. Papers are important in many cases. I should not have any stated what I did. They are important when they are promised and asked for. In her case, since they were not, I don't see why she would even bring that up. I have been a long time reader of this site and it has so much helpful information on it, but when I read this negative feed back I had to reply. If someone doesn't derserve this negative feedback I cannot stand back and watch. It is such a shame. Not only does it do damage to a good person's name, it also damages the dogs reputation which is just sad. But the really sad thing would be someone missing out on a precious beautiful angle from her because of a few negative posts. That would be their loss! Oh honestly if Karen was so bad, why does she have her vet's number and name on her website? I have not seen another breeder who openly has this on their website. Just proves she has nothing to hide. I can guarantee when I am in the market for another yorkie I will be buying from her again. |
Whether they are asked for or not when I personally purchase what is portrayed to me as and akc registered dog I automatically assume that I will be receiving the papers on said dog. It only makes sense that if they are registered then the new owner should receive the paperwork showing that registration and or at least the paperwork to send for them and also the pedigree if so desired. I don't think the buyer should be required to ask for them it should be a given. We also had a bad experience with the person we got our Laddy from and as is happening here when I posted about it people seemed to join just to dispute the facts of what had happened to me. So this makes me wonder even more about breeders when this happens. |
