| Absorbing puppies To cut my hunt and pecking time. If you have posted or read about females reaborsbing their puppies please link them here, give me your advice etc. I took my pregnant female to the vet today and I thought from keeping track of her cycle and the last time I caught her tied with my male was Oct. 19th which put today at day 52, Well the x-ray indicated mineralization to the count of 3 (possible -probable ) puppies or they are being reaborsbed for what ever reason. She has gained 4 lbs and her abdomen is rounded and like last time all of a sudden she started showing, that was within the last 3-4 weeks before whelping her pups. I want to find out causes for such a thing to happen and what to expect in such a situation. She has no fever no lack of appetite. She is really acting normal except for her aggressive behavior toward the other dogs in our house. |

| Why do they think she is absorbing the pups? I am confused by that part.

| I am confused as well. Day 52 is a little early for x-rays as the bones are just starting to calcify. That is why I wait until around day 56-58. The calicification is much more complete and the skeletons can be seen much better. It is possible that the calcification wasn't complete enough, causing it to appear as a re-absorbtion.

| vet recommends over 49 days Quote:
I had calculated her puppies should be due around Dec. 18th, so we had the xray done and if dates were right she should be around 52 days. She is really big and round so if days were right unless she tied again after the date I had actually seen then the xray confirmed growth of puppies had began but were not developing. he advised to get another x-ray in 7-10 days. It was 8 days today since last xrays. Angel seems okay and eating no fever. I guess the xrays indicated small areas of what you could be developing hardening skeletal growth. My vet was going by the dates I had indicated and her weight gain. WE'll see with in the next 10 days if we have healthy puppies or not. I pray we do. | |

| I've raised a few litters of puppies, but I've never had this experience. Keep us informed. I've heard reabsorption of puppies before, but never experienced it. It's usually caused by of death of the fetus isn't it? If calcification is progressing surely it's just skeletal development don't you think? My thoughts and prayers are with you and your little puppy Mother. |
