65 Days...Temp dropped...puppies watch! I am starting a new thread and hopefully I can get a little more help from all experienced Mom and Dad. Is 65 days today for Candy and her temp finally dropped and stayed low all day today. Date Day Temp 22-Oct 62 100.30 23-Oct 63 100.30 24-Oct 64 100.30 25-Oct 65 98.30 8 am 25-Oct 65 98.40 12 noon 25-Oct 65 98.10 5 pm I will have to watch her closely tonight and hopefully I can get some help tonight if I need to. Quick question for now, can someone tell me how do you transport your puppies and mom to the vet after birth? What do I need to pay attention to? Thank you all very much in advance! |
I hope all goes well with your whelping. i transported Maggie and her pups in a carrier. I took a fleece blanket of hers and laid it over a towel I had in the dryer for a bit to get it warm. Also I made the blanket cover the netting on all but one side so they stayed warm. |
Puppies Arrived!!! Need help! Quote:
I don't see milk... when should I supplement |
Do not suppliment. Mom produces colostrum at first, it is essential to the pups protection against illness. Try to help them latch on if they need it. After 12 hours if they haven't nursed and look like they may getting dehydrated than you can give them a few drops of sugar water by dropper. If you have some nutridrops they can help as well. Congrats on your new pups. |
Thank you very much, she is a really good mom, she hug them to keep them warm. Can you tell me what is a normal wt for new born puppies? Two girls, 2.5 oz and 4.5 oz, is 2.5 too small? She is active but I am a little worry |
2.5 oz. is small expecially since the sibling is 4.5 oz. Just keep a close eye on her and weigh her regularly in grams to make sure that she isn't loosing any weight. |
Still no milk, the small one is not moving as much and the mother move her a lot....I am really worry now. What is the sign of dedydration? how much sugar and water to mix? |
I don't see many post with help here, but if anyone can give me answer of the following, I would certainly apprecate that. How often should nursing be? Will the puppies be able to find the teats? When can the mom take a bath? How much weight should the puppies gain to consider normal? Thank you for now! Jen |
Jen...Yt is messing up for me.. But you can always call me. I am atoosassygal@aol.com Write me and I'll email you my number. With it being Sunday not many on I'll help you if I can. Is the little puppy doing better? Or still not moving much? |

I am very happy that the little pup 1 is doing very well, I wt. her at 3:15pm today and she dropped 2 oz, but she gained it back at 9:00pm. Pup 2 is doing well too, she gained 2 oz from birth to 9:00pm. Mother is doing well, her temp is 101.8, I will take them all to the vet Tuesday morning. Jen |
Congrats!! They are so sweet! Glad baby #1 is well, she is so tiny compared to her sister. |
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute!!! mama looks soooooooooooooooooooooooooo happy!!! thanks for the pics ;) |
:yay_jump::yay_jump::yay_jump::yay_jump::yay_jump: Puppies!!!! They look soooo cute!!!:D:D:D |
Puppies are just so cute!!! Both of the puppies are doing well, bigger one (2nd pup, I call her C2)) gained 0.7 oz, little one (1st pup, I call her C1) maintained at 2.5 oz, but she is quite strong. I am taking both of them and mommy to the vet tomorrow to get check up and may be dewclaws and dock tail. I will post more pictures if they do. They are sooooo cute! Jen |
Congrats and I am so glad your babies are doing well. I do want to say that neither I nor my vets will dock tails if the puppy does not weigh over 3 ounces. They can be very stressed and go downhill fast. Maybe give the tiny one another day to stabilize weight above 3 ounces... But, if your vet does tails earlier, then you have to go with what he/she says. Good Luck.. |
Visiting the Vet.. 3 Attachment(s) Took them all to the Vet today, Vet said little one is small but has very strong heart beats, should be ok but still need to watch closely. He did the tail the claws to the puppies, gave mom a "clean up" shot. Couple of pictures with tail docked, resting in mom's arm after nursing....so cute.... |
HELP!! How to supplement I need some quick help before the take her to the vet. Candy start to have Diarrhea last night at about 9 pm, may be due to food changed. She has been nursing the two puppies, but I have notice there is not milk anymore, when I try squeezed the teats, nothing come out, not like yesterday, you see lot of milk with little pressure. Can someone tell me how to supplement the two puppies if I have to? Where to get the supplement? What brand, type? How much? How often? Thank you !!! Jen |

Puppies Updates 4 Attachment(s) It will be a week in a few hours from now, I just have to share couple of pictures with everyone, they are just adorabel!!! My C2 (bigger one) gained 119g in a week, she was 127g at birth and is 258g just now. My C1 (litter one) is still little, gained only 10g in a week, she was 70g at birth and is 80 just now. I have to supplement them, because Candy does not have much milk, does anyone know anyway to increase milk produce for mom? Thank you! |

1 Package unflavored knox geletin added to 16 oz warm to hot water. 1 12 oz can of evaporated milk 2 Tbs low fat vanilla yogurt. 2 Tbs Light Karo Syrup. 2. Egg yolks Put in refrigerator to chill....feed mom about 1 Tablespoon a couple of times a day. This can be used when weaning puppies too. Another thing that I feed to mom immediately after whelping is 1 12 oz can of Goats Milk add equal parts of water 1 Tbs Karo Syrup 1 Egg Yolk I put this into a covered container and shake very well before each serving....Keep refrigerated Giving mom cottage cheese helps Remember her milk only lets down every two hours. She should be eating 4 or more small meals a day.....the above recipes I give in addition to her regular food during the whole time she's nursing. If you're going to supplement, I'd use Just Born, since it has colistrum in it. |
I took them 2 days after delivery as instructed by the vet, and mom was given a shot (my vet referred as CLEAN UP shot). I am going to make them, quick question, do I have to cook the egg york or use raw egg? Thanks for your help! Jen |

Raw eggs. |
Size of Puppies...Question Does any one have the same or similar puppies as me? First one 2.5 oz and 2nd one 7.5 oz. 8 days later, 1st one 2.9 oz, 2nd one 11.5 oz!! I think 1 if over weight and other is under weight.. With your past experience, what would be the average wt of puppies at 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks? Thank you! Jen |
The babies are really cute! Sorry I don't know the answer to your question(s). Hopefully, this will get bumped up so someone can help you...she is awfully tiny! |

I will say, Mardelin's whelping pudding recipie is great to use. I used it for my girl last year after she had her pups; added a little of it to every meal for as long as she was nursing. She loved it and she and her pups thrived! Good luck with the babies; I pray they continue to do well & grow. |
