My girl is due tomorrow, I'll be sleepuing with her tonight. She shows absolutely no signs at all of even being close. |
Looks like you'll have a long night. Hope all is well. |
Checking in to see how things are going? Any news yet? |
Yep, I think it's gonna be a long one. Mike's in the closet now with her. :2hearts2: I'll keep posting as things progress. She's definitely breathing harder, but still not panting. She's very restless, but is sleeping a little bit. Gave her a taste of Nutri-Cal to see if she liked it and she did. When should I give her the Nutri-Cal? Now? Later? Now and Later? Also, is there a sac (the allantoic :nursing: sac) that comes out before the puppy? And if so, I just leave that alone right? Or does it stay inside and come out later? I read something about it and was confused. Something about that if it does break it will lubricate the canal. All the pics and videos don't have it on there and since I have no "hands on" experience, I just didn't know. :scratchhe Thanks for checking in on me and I appreciate your help, immensely! |
You want to keep her energy up, so if she will take a little whelping pudding or Nutri-Cal, then I give it during labor too. She may not take anything because of the labor. Try a little water with karo syrup in it too. Whatever sack comes out, leave it alone until the puppies is all the way out. I've noticed some puppies actually have two sacks, one with fluid in it and one that is like shrink wrap. Once the puppy is born, take all sacks and anything else off the face first, then work on the rest of the body. Don't let mom get too ambitious with the sacks or cord. That can lead to disaster. (I'm very hands on with my dogs during a whelp, I know some people aren't). She may be slowly moving the puppies down into position, which can take awhile. you can feel between the tail and vagina and see if it is hard or firm. If so, you may have a puppy in the birth canal. If it is soft, like the space between your thumb and first finger, then the puppies are still moving down. |
Well, we're just patiently waiting. She still breathing hard and very uncomfortable. She is doing a little more re-arranging in her box and also is pacing more. She's so uncomfortable right now, she's done more turns and twists than a couple doing the jitterbug. Just smacking her little lips all over the place when I gave her the Nutri-Cal. That's the only thing that perked her up. Well, that and her daddy walking in from work. As I told you, my husband was in the closet and I'm on the bed; he was nice enough to switch with me :). But 2 minutes after he walked in and sat down, she came and laid on the floor right outside the closet so she can see both of us. Ya'll it's really funny, she's so little and he's like 6'7" and 250 lbs. and he stuffed himself in the closet to be near her. It's so sweet. I think I have a picture of the closet that we fixed up for her, I'll go and download into my album so you can see how small it is. Seeing it might help someone else who is expecting for the 1st time and it might help give them ideas. I had such a hard time trying to figure out what to do, there are so many things that you need so close to you during the whelp this and it's like where and how do I put all this together? Dang that's what I'll do next time, rent a room! Oh and her temp the last 2 days has been between 98.4 and 97.7; currently it's 97.9. I'll keep posting as she progresses. Thanks for listening to me ramble. |

I plan on being very hands on with mine too. I love this little girl and I want to make everything as easy as possible for her. For everything she has given me, I plan on being there for her too. I'm going to go check and see if I can feel anything and I'll post again. Thanks! |
Well, it doesn't seem hard or soft. I feel two little sharp bones on either side of that space. Then in the middle, it feels like her tummy does without a contraction. In my mind, I would say it should feel harder than what you're describing, right. It should feel harder if there was a puppy that low? What you said before about describing the sacs, thats exactly what I thought, but the internet was not clear about that sac. I actually only read it in one place. So I feel much better about that. Do you know how I will know if two pups are trying to come down the birth canal at the same time. Do you know what I will see I mean? It never said what to do in that situation. I'm just trying to look at worst possible situation because I'm people want to sleep at some point and the vet is 30 miles away. So I was just wondering. Is that ones of those you say "Oh poo, lets get to the vet?" |
Just got back from walking all the dogs. How is she doing?? |
Good, sounds like there are no puppies down there yet. You'll know the difference. The two puppy scenario is tricky. I've had what I'd call "congestion" at the birth canal, but not really two at the same time. Usually one will push forward and they come one after another. I'd head for the vet if there is a puppy in the canal and she has been pushing for more than 30 minutes. And my vet is only 10 minutes away. See how mom is doing. Is she still having strong, regular contractions? If so, she may be able to do this on her own. If not, or if the contractions are getting weaker and farther apart, she may be in trouble. Do you have a phone number for your vet if you need to call? |

The first puppy is always a worry. She sounds good. Hope you are prepared for a whelp in your bed. LOL. I got caught that way once. I'm headed for bed -- but taking my lap top with me and will stay with you for awhile. Hopefully long enough to see the first born. |
Looks like you have a long night ahead of you!! Keep us updated on her progress!! |
Yeah, I changed out the comforter with one that is WAY old. Just in case. Well if she whines, I'll wake up and if she moves, Mike will wake up! We are both light sleepers in one way or the other. Go to bed! It's late, you should get some sleep. I really feel like she won't do anything till 5 or 6 am. Man, look at me, I'm already a professional at this. NOT! Just what you said in your earlier post, made me more confident in this situation. I guess she could just pop one out 30 minutes from now, but I just don't see it happening. The way this whole thing has gone since the whole temperature thing; Peaches is doing things her way; she'd like to take me on the journey with her, but I'm not going to rush her. Yeah this whelp is following her personality to a "T" or I should say "P!" You can always follow-up in the morning. Bring coffee and do-nuts! We'll be here waiting on you!:D |
