Day 59 - Puppy's Coming.....Yes? .....No? I need some help. Peaches is on day 59 and I have tracked her temp since day 54. I'm using a bendable digital thermometer also. Her charting doesn't go with anything I've read. Can anyone help me determine out if it's time for a puppy watch? SAT Day 54 100.1 SUN Day 55 98.8 4:20 pm MON Day 56 97.7 7:30 am 99.7 noon 99.8 5:00 pm 98.8 10:00 pm TUE Day 57 98.5 9:45 am 99.1 1:30 pm 98.6 7:05 pm 97.6 11:30 pm WED Day 58 99.6 8:30 am 98.7 2:00 pm 98.8 5:00 pm THU Day 59 97.0 10:45 am So what do you think? I am so ready for her babies to get here. Her eyes are dilated and she has a glazed look, she ate breakfast around 9 am and she had chicken chips at 11:30. They are 100% real chicken, the only ingredient. |
A watched pot never boils!!LOL Yes, you should always be on puppy watch at this stage. Its been my experience that some will deliver when you least expect it, like when you step out for and hour to go to the store. Not only would I take her temp, but I would be watching for other signs like nesting, loss of appetite, panting and just not being able to get comfortable. Best of luck on your up-coming litter!! |
She is definitely uncomfortable and she's walking way more slow than normal. Her pupils are hhhuuuuuugggggeeee and her eyes are really glassy and has a dazed look. When she looks at you, its like she's looking right through you. She's wanting to stay right by me wherever I go and has been sleeping at my feet. She also gets up like she's going somewhere and then she stops and comes back, stares right through me for a few seconds and lays back down, it's like she forgot where she's going. |

You might be right! I'm fixing to take her to bed, she's breathing really fast right now, I wouldn't really say labored breathing, just faster than she normally does. Her little babies are squirming all over the place, :jump28ib:maybe they're trying to get out! I cleaned out our master bedroom closet and gave it to her for her whelping area. I'm so excited for her. :excited: I only left my husbands clothes in there. I told him it was all "PINK" and he says he's so glad he's color blind. :D I put pink and blue all over two walls, and on the short curtain rod below, I hung a soft, lacy, white valance. He's gonna kill me! I told him that I only did it for Peaches because I knew he would appreciate me taking such good care of her for him since it's really his dog. :) Okay - off to bed. well...... Hi! Not yet, she still has labored breathing off and on. Very lethargic and just threw up some yellow foamy stuff. She has just laid here all day and hasn't seemed interested in anything. She still is glassy-eyed and looks dazed. So the only thing new is that she's even more tired (which I didn't think was possible :(); vomited twice and walks very very veeeerrrryyy slow. Is that normal? The vomiting I mean? btw - thanks for replying.... :D |

My husband is trying to get her to eat some chicken which is her favorite, so I guess we'll see how she does with it. Other than that, still the same as the last post. Thanks for stopping by to let me know about it. I was worried she might have a "bug" on top of fixing to whelp. That would've stunk and so now I can relax with that part knowing that it's normal. Vomiting is normal right before labor. If you have any Nutri-Cal I would give her a little of that. |
Unfortunately.... I don't have any, but can get some in the morning, unless they sell it at WalMart? I don't remember seeing it at PetSmart, we have one but they are already closed. She did eat some chicken diced up, the size of the little medicine cups that come on top of liquid tylenol, etc. filled to 3 tsp. She hasn't gotten sick since she ate it. If she has a weak or small baby, is there anything else I can get for feeding or nutrition? I already have store bought formula but I asked someone on YT to send me the homemade recipe for the formula that doesn't have milk(?) in it. And I have the other recipe (and ingredients) that Breny has posted before with the yogurt and evap milk. Hopefully I won't need them, but just in case. We live 30 minutes from town so I want to be sure. Nutri-Cal, is that the same thing I would give to a preemie or weak baby? Thanks for letting me know about the Nutri-Cal for her. |
Nutri-cal comes in a tube and it is just a high calorie vitamin supplement that you give the momma. It just helps them during delivery too to get stronger contractions. If you have any Karo syrup you can give her a little of that mixed in water and that could help settle her stomach a little too. |
What a day! Well I guess it was just a false alarm, yesterday she was in a very good mood. Her eyes were bright, she played with my husband. Today would be Day 62 for her so surely it will be soon? I'm glad it wasn't yesterday, my back went out and I ended up in the ER from about 4:30 to 10:00. I was panicking that she would end up going into labor when I wasn't here, but I had a friend come over to "babysit" when we left for the ER. Today, she seems fine also. Can they sometimes seem like they are going into the 1st stage of labor and then get a burst of energy like people do? |
I am sorry your back went out. I hope you are doing better today. After raising Yorkies for over 12 years I can honestly tell you that no two females will act the same when it comes to going into labor. Some act perfectly normal until right before the puppy is pushed out and others will start vomiting, have frequent bowel movements and do lots of digging and panting, sometimes for several hours, before having a puppy. I got where I just try to relax and just keep a close eye on the pregnant female. Most of the time when a female is getting close to delivery they get very restless and start walking around looking for some place to hide so when mine start that behavior I don't let them out of my sight. Once they get to the point they want to stay under the couch then I move them to my bedroom and we just hangout in there away from all the other dogs and watch tv. I do not try to make them stay in the whelping basket until they are really pushing hard and the puppy is starting to bulge. |
