| Is it too soon? I am getting so stressed wandering if Halle is actually going to have babies, if she is it is her first litter. I have been reading alot on the canine reproduction site, they say you can use a stethoscope to hear heartbeats, I have done this tonight and can hear her heartbeat but nothing else, is it too soon, am I just too anxious? It will be 30 days on Sat 9/20/08. I have read so much that now I am worried that I am going overboard with the worry about c-sections, x-rays, it's like I'm on this site many times a day to seek your guys advice(cuz some of you are so knowlegable about breeding). Sorry now I'm rambling, I'm just worried, I do so much luv my babies, any comments about this. Paula Halle Brutis |

Living My Yorkie Dream Donating Member | If she is only 30 days PG (barely) I believe it would be too early to hear heartbeats yet. Gosh, I would guess it's almost to early to even know for sure if she is PG. Have you taken her to the vet? They may be able to palpitate her belly to let you know for sure. Has she had any loss of appetite and/or morning sickness? That is one possible sign of pregnancy which lasts about a week. Their belly doesn't get really big until the last week or two before their due date. You should be feeding her a high quality puppy food during her entire pregnancy and even afterwards until the puppies are weaned. It's great that you are reading up.....have you been to the debbie jensen website? I found it to be the best IMO. Lots of good information on every aspect of breeding from the heat cycles through weaning of the puppies. Good luck to you and keep us posted on her progress. BTW, coincendently, I have a yorkie named Halle also. She is only 8 months old and we are anxiously waiting for the day when she will be old enough to have puppies too.

| 30 days is way too early to hear heartbeats. You won't hear heartbeats until the 8th week of pregnancy. You have to listen closely and they won't beat as loud but much faster than the mom's heart beats. This is also the time to get an x-ray done to see how many puppies there are and the size of them. Also they usually don't start looking pregnant until they are 6 to 7 weeks pregnant, so you still have a little ways to go. Here is a great site with a ton of information:Canine Reproduction Video and Book on Breeding and Whelping dogs by Debbie Jensen for dog breeders and Whelping Supplies needed to deliver puppies.

| It's not too early to be prepared and know all you options...just make sure you don't cross the line between "preparing" and "panicking." Hard to do, I know. It is too early to tell for sure if she is preggers or not. Any 'signs' she is giving you now, like the ones mentioned in the previous post, might give you an indication, but you have to remember also that the same 'signs' may be there for a false pregnancy. So in short, you can't reallyl rely completely on them. Are you planning on having and xray done around day 50? That will probably be when you can tell "for sure" if she is expecting or not and will give both you and your vet a heads up if any of the pups seem to be to large for her to deliver naturally. Just try to stay calm and wait it out. If she's preggers, then those pups will be here soon enough. |

| I haven't taken her to the vet yet, I thought maybe it was too soon for that, but I certainly will take her. She did in fact throw up just a very little bit, it was only for 2 or 3 days and it was like a tannish color foamy looking. Normal I hope, I did what some of you said to do, gave her a saltine cracker, she ate it but she likes cheese alot better LOL! I'm sure I am just too anxious, she's doing just fine I do plan on taking her for an xray, I would worry way way too much not to know if the puppies were too big for her to have. Also, about her name, I was torn between Sopie and Halle, and I just loved the name Halle. Thanks you guys, you're the best! I love this site!! Paula Halle Brutis |
