| I know this problem has been fixed but just for future reference. There is no need to be concerned just because the sack is broken. I would say that 75% of my puppies have the sack broken well before the puppy arrives. Also feet first is not usually a problem. Again I would say that 50% of my puppies are born breach with no difficulties at all. It is also not uncommon for a foot to show and then go back in several times. When the foot protrudes far enough for you to be able to grasp it - do so with a soft cloth. Do not pull - just keep the pup from going back in when the contractions let up. When the contractions start again, pull gently back toward you and slightly down (that is if the girl is standing up. If she is laying down pull toward you and curve toward the momma's feet.) Always be sure to stop pulling when the contractions stops. If you do not - you can damage both the puppy and the baby. Also if the both legs are not visable, try to find the other leg. This will also help determine if it is a front leg or a back leg. If it is a front leg - you then need to push the puppy back in a little in order to get the head out first as it is very difficult to get the head out along with a leg. It can be done without damage to the mom or pup but it is not something that I would recommend an inexperienced breeder to do. If you are inexperienced and this occurs - I would strongly recommend taking her to the Vet immediately. Best of luck to you and momma! Charlie |
