Need advice for newbie help!!!

Well, a 4 1/2 pound girl is small. Good thing you got the x-ray done. Her having 3 to 4 pups will be better than if she only carried 1 or 2. This way the pups won't be as big as in the case of a single puppy. Did the vet give you any indication if he thought she could deliver these babies or not? He should be able to tell from the size of their heads as compared to her pelvis. If he didn't mention this, you should ask. That will give you an idea as to whether a c-section would be needed. It's not the only thing to consider, but this is something you'll want to know before her due date.

If you see her actively trying for an hour without success, then call the veterinarian.

3) There are no rules for how much time there is in between puppies. I have seen bitches have puppies every ten minutes and some have them one every 24 hours. Each dog's pattern will be different. If you do not see her straining as noted in number 2, don't worry about the time between the puppies.

Hopefully, the mother will do the rest. The puppies do come out in a sac, but the bitch will remove them, eat the sac and chew off the umbilical cord. The puppies will all find their way to the mom's nipples. Don't worry about puppies wandering around the whelping box. They will find their way.

It is difficult to list and describe every possible complication that can occur. Most of the times, things go perfectly fine (especially if we humans don't mess things up). And if you follow the tips above and have one of the 99% of the dog breeds that have no complications, you will do just fine.

One last bit of advice. It is very important for the mom and the puppies to be seen by your veterinarian within 48 hours of whelping. This allows the veterinarian to be sure all the puppies are ok and we often will give the bitch an injection of oxytocin which will stimulate any other uterine material that is left to be pushed out.

Ok...My girls temps do go up and down..usually the week before they deliver. I would be taking her temp 3 times a day, same time everyday and writing it down. When mine go in the 98 degree zone they go anywhere from 12 - 24 hours.

I would just keep her comfortable and once that temp drops do not leave her alone.

Do you have a vet reachable 24/7 just in case? Do you have a mentor nearby or by phone who can walk you through when labor begins?

Make sure she is eating well...you want her to keep her strength. There is a good recipe for whelping pudding (just do a search) and mine love boiled chicken breast if they are being picky about eating their food. I always feed puppy food when they are expecting too.

hello thank you somuch for responding! yes i check her temp 3x day so far her temp is staying in the 99.7 and goes down up and down .! im so worried i just her to be ok . Alls he does now is lay down and sleep she gotten so big and her belly has drop ty u again ill keep u posted

hello! my yorkie looks liek she going burst she looks so miserable and sad! what cani do for her? and she becoming ansty walking round then she will lay down. last time i took her temo was at 6:51pm it was 99.2 but she looks so big anything ican do for her make her feel any better plz tell me anything

Hi I got yor message but she is fine she not having pups yet, just calm down she will be fine , just rest tonight her temp is not low enough to have puppys yet, it's ok. I havre to go to bed now but you can call should she start to have puppies but it won't be tonight sweetie, take care denise

Relax and calm down. Her temp isn't low enough to have puppies yet. She is going through a process to get ready. But don't get excited, be calm for your dog and she will do fine.

It will be okay, there are enough people on YT to help you. Is she in her whelping box, or is she hiding from you like under the bed.
