♥My Lil' Monkey Girl♥ Donating Member | Heartbeats & Puppy Gender?? Hi all i am having my first litter. The vet said he could feel at least three puppies (or what he thought were puppies...like little ping pong balls.) Anyway, she is scheduled for her ultrasound on Weds. My questions is the following: 1. When can i hear the heartbeats with a stethoscope or fetal heart monitor on my own? 2. Where do i place the stethoscope of fetal heart monitor so that i know its the puppies and not mom? 3. Is there a way to tell the gender of the puppies? (Through ultrasound or any other techique?) 4. Is it true ( has anyone heard and predicted themselves) if you hear the heartbeats that it is like morse code? Boys=dots and girls=dashes? Please help all help is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in advance! BaileysMom |

| I have heard by a true veteran yorkie breeder - that the fast heartbeats are girls. But I think you have to do this right close to their whelping date. T. |

| That is what they used to say about babies. The slower the heartbeat the more likely it was a boy. I had one big lazy girl that I was so sure was a boy that I almost wrote our "boy" name in her baby book before she was born. Our 8 week old puppies were just checked by the vet. He said all of the larger puppies had slow heartbeats, and the little guys were up to 20 beats a minute faster. Their weights are all between 1.9 lbs. and 2.3 lbs. so not that different. IMO it would be very difficult to accurately predict sex of a puppy before birth.
