| Pregnant? Hi everyone, I recently loaned my sister money to buy a female to breed with her male. She bought the little dog supposedly pregnant from the breeder. Well my sister decided that she didn't want the little girl after all so now I am the new owner of Ginger. Ginger tied the knot with a sire that the breeder owns and her 65th day from the last tie (she tied twice over a 4 day period) should be July 8. I wasn't going to xray because I thought I would be able to tell if she's pregnant or not. I have been free feeding her Natural Balance dry and feeding NB wet 2x a day. Nutristat once a day. She has definetly filled out buy maybe that's just because I've been feeding her so much. I have friends who breed st bernards and I was just going to ask them for advice on the actual whelping but after reading everything on here I guess maybe I need a REAL yorkie person. I live in Spring TX which is very close to Houston. Does anyone live near here or know of anyone who does? Before I start building whelping boxes and buying postage scales maybe I better xray. I've ended up with Ginger almost on accident but she's awsome. We already have 3 dogs, a cat, and a horse so one more little sweety is just fine. I've been bitten by the baby bug too so I'm going to be disappointed if she's not prego. So does anyone know of someone who lives close to me or does anyone have advice for me? Thanks a bunch. sorry so long but I'm a bit bewildered and rambling, Becca

| Hi, welcome to Yorkie Talk. I use to live in Spring but now I live about two hours from there in Warren, TX. Your girl would have 3 weeks to go so she should be starting to show soon. You could have the vet check her now or just wait another two weeks and then have a x-ray done if you were interested in knowing how many she is going to have and how big the pups are. How big is the momma? |

| litter Welcome... A clear, sticky discharge is a positive sign for my girls...not all have one at 6 weeks, but all who have them, are pregnant..it is common...some around 4 to 5 weeks. If you can post a few photo's of her belly, we might be able to help you..I would contact your vet, have a well check and go back at 55 to 58 days for an xray...the money you invest now, can prevent problems later..I have never regretted any vet pre-natal care, but I have regretted not getting it, xrays etc...take a stool for a worm check.. Xrays tell you what you are dealing for the most part..one oversized pup or several smaller. Is this her first litter? Last edited by YorkieRose; 06-16-2008 at 06:45 AM. |

| litter If she is pregnant, buy a Rubber Made oversized cat litter pan for a bed..I also use under the bed bins...of course, it depends on the bitches size, but I find them fine for a girl up to about 7 pounds so so. Do not make the mistake of using a bed that is oversized...chill will be a big problem. I use a heating pad UNDER the box and simple, one layer bedding. I prefer, the washable wee-wee pads...some are made the exact size of the box.. Be sure to enrich her diet with extra natural calcuim..cottage cheese, yoghart, cheese...no cal pills before whelping. |

| Well when we woke up this morning to a bloody diarrhea puddle I took Ginger to the vet. After xrays to see if she had something in her tummy (she's been vomiting up pieces of plastic!) we saw that there are NO puppies. I'm bummed! Now I'm withholding food overnite for another xray tomorrow. There was something in her tummy(eek-not a foriegn object?) so by tomorrow we'll know if it was just food in her stomach or something we'll need to have removed. Ugh! Poor dog - she says she's hungry. So no babies. Keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow! Thanks everyone, Becca

| discharge The discharge is not profuse...just enough to collect in the vulva area..it is clear/tannish when wiped off with a damp paper towel. I am sorry to hear your girl is not pregnant...don't get worked up about a bowel upset..some Yorkies are prone to them. I doubt she has anything in her gut...she is no doubt stressed due to her new homes, new foods, new situations...does her with Pepto, feed her a bland chicken and rice diet until her stool firms up...make sure she has no worms..best wishes |

It sounds like things are under control. What day is she from her first breeding...she may not be far enough along for the puppy or puppies to show on the x-ray. I hope she is feeling better soon!

Becca puppies DO NOT show up in xrays until the pregnacy is at least 50-52 days along...since she has almost 3 weeks before her due date I would delay the xray until the calcification is able to be seen in the film...which would be at the end of this month. keep us posted

| Well good news! No foriegn objects! Xray was clear. Today would have been 46th day if Ginger was pregnant. I'm not holding my breath for puppies. The vet seemed sure there aren't any. I'm just glad she's OK! Thanks for all the moral support guys! B--

| Well I am happy to hear that she is ok, but 46 days is too early to x-ray. Puppies only start to calcify on day 45. I would watch her closely and x-ray again on day 58-59. I would still treat her like she is pregnant.

| Oh No It turned out that she has a bacterial infection so now she's taking antibiotics (2 doses so far). Meds can't be good if she turns out to be pregnant. Yipe! This past couple of days is sort of like a rollercoaster. Wow - What should I do?
