| Kallies pups...need suggestions The pups are almost 4 wks now.. Not walking very well but trying really hard.. Bellies are sooo fat they can barely pick them up.. My question is, I have the whelping box inside the xpen, they sleep in the box and pee all over their blanket, then during the day I bring them out into the xpen and let them walk around on pee pads.. They are always peeing and I am not sure how to keep their sleeping quarters clean and dry for them.I change the blanket several times per day....I hate the thought of them laying in pee while I am asleep... |

| Your puppies are old enough now that they should not need the whelping box. I would put them some bedding at one end of the x-pen and then their pee pad next to where they sleep. Now what I use is old sheets, towels and throw rugs. I go to a lot of yard sales and pick these up. You don't want the puppies walking on a slippery surface or it will be harder for them to learn to walk. I always lay out the old sheets and rugs for them to walk on. Sometimes I will use a old comforter for them to lay on. The bedding can be changed out every couple of days and washed. Once your puppies are walking better I recommend you grind up some dry puppy food and put it in the pen with the puppies, along with a bowl of water. I always put a 10" board across one end of the x-pen so the momma can still jump in and out to feed the puppies when she wants too. |
