Out of all 3 girls, looking at them every single day I think Weezie has the shortest muzzle of all 3, then it's Sofie and then Sage. Both our studs have shorter muzzles. I know I need a smaller Stud there's no doubt about that. But I also feel before choosing one I need to also learn more on the subjects of Breeding, Whelping and Raising Yorkies. As far as Line Breeding I need to learn more on that subject also....I don't want to run and jump in without knowing what I'm getting into...I've already done that but by the Grace of God was blessed with my Sofie and Weezie and Galahad and all of our puppies. I DO regret 1 thing in our Whelpings of our litters, the only thing I DO regret is that I didn't have sense enough to LEARN more before breeding, I started realizing that I wanted to do breeding the right way and needed to start over and take a break to learn more last Summer and this is what I did. I am not one bit ashamed of my mistakes as this is how I learn...No one is perfect in anything but in Breeding everyone needs to at least try to get near perfect in their Yorkies as they can (Learned this from all of you Show Breeders here on YT!!! And thanks to each of you for this valueable lesson)...It take time this I've realized and time I have plenty of. I don't care one bit to admit my mistake and ask for help. I don't take anyone answers to my questions as being mean, I take them as helping me to learn. I know I don't have the best AKC Standard Show Yorkie out there but I sure am willing to try to work towards having one of my own. I'm sure there are those around me that may think gosh how stupid is she or why is she asking all these stupid questions, but to me they are not stupid and if I want to learn anything then I have to ask the questions. I guess in others eye I may look like a total Ja----- for all the questions I'm asking but oh well by the time I get done hopefully I'll be a smart Ja----- :D I want honest thoughts about what Bitches and Studs I have in my Breeding stock and where to go from here...As I'm new to breeding and this is a must to be able to move forward...If they none was of good breeding stock then I would just have to restart my program. You have to be able to take the good with the bad and vise versa and be able to admit when your wrong and try to correct that wrong but also be brave enough to ask questions from some of the Top Yorkie Breeders and Exhibitors. I am so proud that each of you took the time to help me and tell me what I need to know or should do to help me in my breeding program. I'm sure I'll make more mistakes along the way but hopefully I can catch those mistakes right away and try to correct them. I feel I'm learning from the Best you Experienced Yorkie Breeders and Show Exhibitors. Thank you so much for your compliment on me having guts :) Hugs Lee |

I "THINK" Sage is the longer bodied bitch. I also thought Tiffanie was too but yet short in her legs...Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on this...Won't bother me on bit. I'm curious, where in the standard does it say Yorkshire Terriers are exactly square? I've actually tried to find the answer to this as many people believe they are to be square. All I can find is "the back is rather short". I'm curious myself and have wondered if it is true. I've been told they should be slightly longer that tall. So it seems as though there is not absolute answer in the standard so who really knows? All I know is the standard does not say "square" although many people say this? It leaves me confused:) There was an article in Yorkie Club Magazine and this particular person called Sonia Pagani wrote this: One must keep in mind the exact proportions - balance of the body. It should be compact, not necessarily square. The length may be moderately greater than the height at the withers; otherwise, the angulations of the shoulder and of the rear will be too straight. Also, the legs must be proportioned to the height of the thorax, with short hocks. The pasterns must not be flexible and the dog should have closed cat feet. When the angulations are at its best, and the arms have the proper length, the neck “comes out” well allowing the dog to keep the head uplifted during movement - this will give the Yorky elegance. The same may be applied for a well proportioned head. The muzzle should be neither long nor short, a good “stop”, flat skull and parallel axis skull-muzzle. This gives the exact positions for the eyes, which should not be round, nor too big and should have dark pigment. The size of the head must be proportioned and in balance with the body - rather small but not too small. |
Girls I have a question about the Toplines on Yorkies. When you go to adopt a Yorkie either Bitch or Stud...Do you run your hands over them to insure they have a good topline??? If so how do you do this and what else do you do as far as feeling/looking at the New Bitch or Stud when your considering adopting one? What question do you ask the Breeder??? standard The standard is a guideline...short backed only works for me if the body is square...having a short back and long legs looks unbalanced in my eyes, having a long back and short legs is the same odd look...but that is why we have judges of all sorts..not all like the same types. Anything I post is an opinion, not gospel...much of what I have learned is at ringside..when a foundation breeder says.."Look at that Yorkies body, it is square and compact, perfect"... I took it to mean it was a positive trait... When it comes to a stud...I am very much in favor of buyng champion stud service from a reputable breeder..once you buy a stud, you are locked in to using him...if the breedings do not click, then you are stuck...by using good stud service a few times it always gave me new pups to use with my line and my males.. Getting good top lines is simple..buy from a line with good structure..see as much of the breeders line as possible..I can not recall seeing a puppy from good top line parents, Grandparents etc..suddenly have a terrible top line...but that is my experince.. |
