| Any pics of 9 week old with its Mother? I am curious about what a 9 to 12 week old puppy looks like sizewise next to it mom or dad? Someone brought up a good topic on another thread and I am looking to purchase a pup next week. The pup was not much smaller then her 5.5 lb mom and 3.lb dad..I thought maybe cause she was really fluffy she may appear larger..but now I am wondering if she is going to be larger then I hoped for.. I want her to be between 4 and 6 lbs. Her pic is in my profile page ..can anyone tell? Oh her ears are larger too..is this an indicator? Last edited by ckuz13; 05-23-2008 at 09:31 AM. |

| She is absolutely adorable! What a sweet little face! Is size really that important to you? I couldn't resist such a cutie! Good luck with your decision!

| I'm attaching a picture of Jake at about 8 weeks with his mom who is about 5 lbs. I have another picture of Jake at 10 weeks when I picked him up with his mom and dad (4 lbs.), but I think it may be on my work computer. There wasn't a big difference in size from 8 weeks to 10, and he weighed 1 lb., 10 oz. when I picked him up. He was really tiny. The second picture is of me kissing Jackson the day I picked him up (the pups on my lap were someone else's). Jake is next to me (full grown--a year later), so you can see the size difference between him and Jackson. Jake is 4 1/2 lbs. Jackson was a little close to 2 1/2 lbs. in that pic. I hope it helps somewhat. The picture of the baby you are thinking about getting is adorable!!! Do you know how much she weighs now?

| Thank you soo much.. That does help. Wow Jakes coloring is so pretty...so different from his mom..I don't know her weight. I did not ask because I did not think that was too important at the time. But it struck me after the fact when a well known breeder commented that the Yorkie was "big" for 9.5 weeks. I thought it was funny too to see the puppy running along side her dad (3.lbs) and she was almost his size. He was still a little bigger not by much. I just don' want to end up with a whopper( travel purposes) I don't want a tiny either. I just thought looking at the parents was a good indicator, but then if the pup is almost their size then I wonder..I know A doctor who payed quite a bit for a yorkie who he thought would be 5lbs and it ended up 14lbs...he loves her..but he can't carry her around like he hoped to. Thanks again. |

| I would guess that an 8 week old puppy, that is almost as big as its mother, is going to be larger when full grown. If size matters than I would not get this one. Not sure how well you know the breeder, or anything about them, but if they have more than one stud, the 3 pound male might not be the father. |

| Well, she is a hobby breeder( I know). She has a 2.5 or 3 male and a 5.5 female. One silky coat, one is coton. One is silver, one is blue/tan. So I really don't know what I will get. Size is not too important, but would like an adult who falls in the 4 or 5 range. Coat matters as well. At first I did not care, but the more I read on YT the more I learn..I think when your'e spending a good amount of money..you should have a preference. If I did not, then I would rescue as I have done in the past.I just want to do it right the first time..thanks so much. |

| Well neither coat type or size can be guaranteed. So if coat type is a concern then I would buy from a breeder where both parents are silky coated. Still no guarantee, but more likely to be silky. Yorkies are made up of so many different breeds, there are a lot of recessive genes that just pop up from time to time. |

| So true..just like humans..haha..I think I am going to look at some other breeders..I just am a sucker for a pretty face. She tried to sell her pups at 8 weeks which I am glad I did not purchase at that time. I knew better. She sold the smallest first and now has two remaining. She met my offer $$ cause they are getting older well 15 weeks. But I think she has made too many shortcuts...so other things beside coat and size weigh in as well...thank you so much for your advice..I will seek out a more knowledgable breeder |
