| Day 51 - Puppies reabsorabed? Hi, My girl is on day 51 of her pregnancy. The xray, to confirm the pregnancy, is scheduled for tomorrow. This is her first (and mine too). However, yesterday I noticed she seemed maybe a little smaller. Her belly didn't seem as swollen. Today she definitely seems littler, much less round around her midsection. I'm absolutely sure of it. She had gained 15 ounces, up until this point. She was noticeably "showing", definite increase in appetite, and definite nipple growth . But I weighed her this morning, and she only showed a 12 ounce weight gain, from her original weight. There hasn't been any discharge. Did she lose the puppies, possibly reabsorb them? Or is it possible that she wasn't even pregnant to begin with? |

| Yes, this is my first litter. I tried feeling for movement over the last few days, but honestly, being so new at this, I'm not sure I would know it if I did feel it, and I didn't want to press around too hard for fear of dislodging fragile fetuses. |

| something else various vets have told me is that the last two or three weeks until whelping time is usually when a bitch will absorb her babies. let's pray this isn't the case with your girl. Please let us know what the x-ray says. |

| We had a female absorb puppies at about day 50, she had gained almost a lbs and then one day that was pretty much gone. I palpated 2 puppies on day 28 so we knew she was pregnant... and now I could still palpate something in her abdomen so we took her for her x-ray on day 60 just to make sure everything was ok, already thinking she had lost the litter. The x-ray showed nothing but our vet could feel what I was feeling so sent us for an altrasound. So we went the same day, ultrasound showed nothing. Three days later we saw some really dark discharge and we started to clean her up and a very tiny placenta came out, then a partially reabsorbed puppy, followed by another teenie tiny placenta. We took her back for another ultrasound and the repro specialist said that because there was no fluid around the puppy that is why it did not show up on the ultrasound before. We put her on antibiotics just in case and she was fine. She recently carried a litter to term.

| Darn - I was hoping not to hear that. I was hoping just the opposite was true - that they are unlikely to miscarry this far into the pregnancy. But I really feel this is probably what happened. Over the last few day it's like her belly just deflated. I'm so dissappointed and sad. I will be sure to let you know what the xray shows. |

Your video (I'm guessing it's yours) of a yorkie puppy delivery on YouTube is great and very helpful. Thank you for taking the time to put it out there. |

| one thing to keep in mind the pups start reposition, ie; she may look fuller on the sides then as she nears whelping the pups drop changing the moms body appearance...instead of looking full on the sides the tummy looks rounder...specially if its only one or two pups... gl on your appointment
