We had a female absorb puppies at about day 50, she had gained almost a lbs and then one day that was pretty much gone. I palpated 2 puppies on day 28 so we knew she was pregnant... and now I could still palpate something in her abdomen so we took her for her x-ray on day 60 just to make sure everything was ok, already thinking she had lost the litter. The x-ray showed nothing but our vet could feel what I was feeling so sent us for an altrasound. So we went the same day, ultrasound showed nothing. Three days later we saw some really dark discharge and we started to clean her up and a very tiny placenta came out, then a partially reabsorbed puppy, followed by another teenie tiny placenta. We took her back for another ultrasound and the repro specialist said that because there was no fluid around the puppy that is why it did not show up on the ultrasound before. We put her on antibiotics just in case and she was fine. She recently carried a litter to term.
