susan from stardust yorkies Is she reputable? |
When I did a search this came up....I don't know if anything in it will be helpful.... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/bre...e-breeder.html |
Thank you I read that. I don't know what to think. |
She advertises in Dog Fancy. The best breeders don't advertise like that. I didn't know any better when we got Loki. Loki was supposed to be 7 lbs and he is 12 lbs. He was bred in Iowa and she did not have his parents on site (either of them) and would/could not show me pictures. Loki has a genetic disease called diabetes insipidus and he is on medicine that is $130 a month and he still has problems. I love him. He's super smart. He also has some serious social issues with other dogs because he was taken from mom so early. He did tons of training with me and he is better, but still afraid of his own shadow. I'd never buy another puppy from her. I've gone through his entire story on here (check the Great Lakes section) and I'd rather not go through it again. It's hard to find good breeders in Chicago but they do exist. Good luck. |
Susan from Stardust has been breeding for probably 30 years. I dont know how reputable she is but she has very nice champion lines and champion sired puppies. She has shown quite a few to their championships also. I dont know about her health guarantees or know her personally. |
I read your story, but I have also read probably 10 others that say she is the best. I think every breeder will have one or two puppies that may not be perfect, but I also don't want to go to a bad breeder. |

I would look further and that is all I am going to say about Susan. |

And, my experience has been "show people" sell to pet people quite often, if the breeders criteria for a pet home are met. |

Just from my conversation with her, she said she WOULD not let a dog go home before 3 months and she told us we can come and see the parents. So I don't know if she is lying, but she sounds good to me. |
In fairness to Stardust Yorkies, She does have a person breeding some of her puppies in Iowa, but she sells them all here. She also breeds in her own home and several of the puppies she has now were bred in her home. I have 2 from Susan, Pixie who was bred in Susan's home and Roxie who was bred in Iowa. Susan is upfront about the puppies born in Iowa as the person in Iowa is on the AKC papers. When I got Dixie from her,who was bred in her home, it turned out she tagically had cingenital kidney failure and passed on at 7 months. Susan felt as bad as I did and would never had sold her if she knew, She "replaced" her for lack of a better word and compensated me as well. My husband calls Pixie his Perfect Pixie and wanted another just like her. Roxie is leggy and Susan told me that but she has a pretty face and a super temperment. She is feisty and a love bug. Pixie is a little more fearful of new experiences but I do not take my dogs out much other than in the yard or for walks in the stroller, but she is the mother dog here who makes sure I know when one of the other dogs needs something. She even won over my grouchy 11 year old pom.I think any breeder who has been breeding for that long is going to have an issue here or there and it is how they respond to it. This is just my opinion and experience. If I had had a bad experience my opinion would be different. So I respect everyones opinion. Keep us posted. |
In my opinion, Stardust is reputable... I also think that not every dogs will turn out the champion quality or perfect dogs without any illness.... It seems that she has variety of yorkies with differences.. ... I would definitely consider getting a yorkie from her next time. My Haruka is partly stardust line... that is what i was told. |

I think that one or two people have had bad experiences. I expect that to happen to every breeder. No Breeder is going to have perfect puppies everytime. She spoke to me for 1/2 hour on the phone. She won't even sell me a puppy before 3 months and will show me the parents. She will also send picture If I would like. She has more good experiences than bad. She is upfront about everything with her puppies. |
I checked out 3 breeders from Dog Fancy online for curiousity sake and they all seemed unreputable to me. Just my 2 cents. |

The one I am buying has the parents there. That is all that matters to me. |
I had a friend that bought a puppy from Stardust. From what I remember, I wasnt all that impressed. My friend bought a pup named Ginger from her and Susan shipped the pup from IL to Sacramento at 9 weeks. When my friend took her to the vet, the pup had a hernia that Susan knew about, but didnt disclose before she shipped her. To me, I found that bad business. When my freind approached her, Susan said she could "exchange" the pup, but of course my friend was already attached. Susan knew my friend was buying Ginger to mate with her male. I just thought that was shady of her to still send a pup that cannot breed due to the hernia. However...Susan did become very close with my friend and was very helpful in helping my friend become a breeder. She was always there to answer questions and offer advice. Personally, I just never got over the fact that she knowingly sold an unhealthy pup. The pup was adorable..but just wasnt fit to breed. I would have had more respect for Susan had she sold the sweet lil girl to someone wanting a new pup as opposed to a new mother to breed. So...bottom line....gorgeous pups...not so trustworthy!! But thats JMO!!!! ;) |
Does anyone know any reputable breeders in IL or Indiana that have puppies available in the beginning of june then? |

Amy...please dont take this the wrong way...but you seem almost defensive of any opinions given about Stardust......if you feel that strongly then go with your gut and get a pup from her. But when you ask for an opinion on here, it is given to you to HELP you....not to put you down or disagree with you!! Bottom line....whatever baby you end up with, I think you will have ALOT of people on here to support you and enjoy your stories to come of your new baby!! I think its great you came here first to ask opinions....but dont take it personal if what your hear isnt what you wanted to hear!! All of of us are overprotective of Yorkies....but bottom line....wherever you get your baby from...know you are supported and you dont need to be defensive.....If I am wrong, then I sincerely apologize...but thats just my perception of this thread ok :) |
No I am sorry. I am just frustrated. I found a breeder and now the puppies have ringworm then I found Stardust, and I am hearing bad things about her. I just want a great breeder I can trust. does anyone have any? I don't mind having them shipped without seeing them if I know they are a VERY reputable breeder. |

I have been looking for 5 months. I need the puppy the first week of June, so I am in a little bit of a rush. Does anyone know of a good breeder around IL or Indiana |

Your frustration is SO understandable!! But I promise you...as a Yorkie Mom that waited a LONG time for the right baby.....if you do your homework (as you are by asking these questions) and give it a lil bit of time...you will find the perfect baby! I would suggest to check out the breeder talk forums and get to know the veterans on here. Believe me, they care every bit as much as you do about finding the right pup for you! I wish you the best of luck and I definitely feel for you and your frustrations!! I know you want to find someone trustworthy, and find em now.....but if you take the time to make the right choice, we can all promise you that you will NEVER regret it!! Good luck Amy ;) |
You may want to go see the pup Susan has, see the parents and then make a decision. If you don't like what you see, keep looking. JMO |
Also...maybe ask Susan if you can have the pup checked by a vet YOU choose before the final purchase. If the pup is healthy.....then lemme tell ya.....her pups are ADORABLE and have the sweetest temperament!! I loved Ginger!! Thought she was the sweetest thing. She was pee pad trained at 9 weeks and so loving. Just thought it was crappy of Susan to sell a pup she knew could not reproduce. Susan knew my friend was looking for a female to breed and sold her a pup that couldnt do so....Having said that.....if you can have the pup fully checked before you commit, then, in my personal opinion, I can tell ya her pups are cute as can be!! Just dont let yourself settle because you are on a time limit.....this is in fact a lifelong commitment!! ;) |
