| ![]() Hi, I am curious about what test that you breeders are doing on your females before breeding. I am considering breeding my female ( with plenty of research). I know there are more factors than just testing when considering breeding, but I want to be prepared if I decide to do this. What are your suggestions? That is Izzy in the pic. Thank You

| ![]() I've found that this can be a really difficult subject to get breeders to talk about publically. You may have better luck talking to breeders in private about it. Here is a thread I started a few months ago that got pretty good responses. It might help you out http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sho...ghlight=health I can tell you of things I am aware of that can be used to screen your dogs and what I would look into if I was considering breeding. A very careful and thorough physical exam by vet Complete Blood Panel Bile Acid Test Urinalysis (?) Brucellosis Test (every time before breeding) Patella and hips cleared & certified by OFA http://www.offa.org/patluxinfo.html http://www.offa.org/hipinfo.html http://www.offa.org/leggperthinfo.html Eyes checked & cleared & certified by CERF http://www.vmdb.org/cerf.html Heart checked & cleared & certified by OFA http://www.offa.org/cardiacinfo.html Thyroid checked & cleared & certified by OFA http://www.offa.org/thyinfo.html Ears checked & cleared & certified by OFA http://www.offa.org/deafinfo.html (personally, I think this probably isn't needed for our breed..) You also want to do research into the pedigrees of the male and female to check for any genetic defects/diseases to identify if the dogs could be a carrier or not. Hope that helps ![]()

| ![]() You should be able to get a copy form the breeder, or you can purchase one from AKC when you register the pup.

| ![]() ok, so then from AKC I can chose either a 4 or 5 generation pedigree. I would prefer not to ask the breeder as I am not sure I would get the truth.

| ![]() Hello everyone! i have a very imprtant question! My yorkie(bonnie) barely started her third heat cycle, in fact she is still menstrating, however my younger sister found my other yorkie(clyde) in a tie. But because she is still menstruating i do not think she will get pregnant. I do not want her to have puppies beacuse she just had a litter less that 4 months ago. Please tell if it is possible for her to become pregnant is her heat cycle started less that a week ago?!!! -Amy ![]() |

| ![]() That is my understanding too. I would just add that in case she isn't pregnant, keep them apart to ensure they don't breed again. Once they figure out how, they can be pretty clever about getting together again. Sorry, this went up twice. My finger must have gotten stuck.

Donating YT 2000 Club Member | ![]() Excellent post. I would add make sure that the Dam is up-to-date on all shots so that her immunity will cover the puppies for six weeks. Sometimes it is necessary to do booster shots in order to assure the immunity. |

| ![]() Why wouldnt the breeder give you an accurate pedigree? Most breeders have accurate pedigrees and are included in the puppy package. Hmmm, unless the breeder is trying to hide something like a brother/sister or mother/son breeding. Just wondering. |
