My Female is on heat Hi all, I am new here,... I have a little problem that I am seeking help. I have 3 yorkies, one girl who is in her heat, 2 boys. They are all not spayed or neutered, coz I intend to breed them. They all have been tested for any health problems and all 3 pass. My female came into heat about 5 days ago, my 1st male have been wanting to breed her even when shes not even in heat yet. Then, stoped when she started bleeding. She seems interested on my 2nd male and she started to hump him. Now, he don't wanna do anything to her. I always keep them separated until last night, she got out from the kitchen. All 3 of them had been together. My question is, can anything happen between them 3? Did any breeding took place? I know I am not supposed to breed until 7-10 days when shes on heat but, she got out. is there any test for her to know if shes been breed? |
Welcome to YT:) Could you please list the health tests that have been done? They NEED to be separated, so someone can hold them during the tie, otherwise, they could get injured. |
How old are these 3? |
Hips (OFA or PennHip) Patella Eyes (CERF) Thyroid Genetics I think there is more, but I cannot remember. They are separated but, last night. My female is 3yrs old. And this would be her 4th heat. I have not breed her yet. So, do you think there was a breeding took place? |
girl-3 1st boy-4 2nd boy-2 |
i was in the other forum, and they had told me to leave it to them, natural behavior will take place. That dog's know how to do it, they have been doing it for centuries... |
so.., what will happen if left unattended and breed? |

Wow, good to hear. Specifically though, has a bile acid test been done on all three of them and are their lines clear of LS? She has not been in heat long enough to get pregnant. Isn't 9-11 days best? Correct me if I'm wrong??? |
yes, she has been tested on that to. so, shes not pregnant yet? whew...! good to hear that |

Letting nature take its course is usually not a good idea in Yorkies because their pregnancies are high risk/c-sections are required often. |

I was just reading the other posts... It says "they breed" This, this mean they assists? Holding the female? |
Every female is different....I didn't think my two were going to do anything at all, but my male would not do anything but sniff her until he knew she was ready....I keep mine seperated until I know I can be there to hold them after they tie, because they can really get hurt....and it being her first time she might be a little snippy and she might not. My little girl was not ready to take until day 12...I read someones post a while back and their female would not take until day 15...so you neve rknow. |
If she is in fact pregnant, it sounds like you'll have to do a DNA test on each puppy to find out who the sire is. If both dogs are breeding her, she can have puppies from each sire in the same litter. |
Yes, it is possible that the female could have been bred by both males when left together overnite. And it is possible that you did not notice the exact day your dog came into her season and your count could be off a day or 2, therefore resulting in the possibility of her being bred overnite. DNA will have to be done to determine the sire of each puppy if you are intending to register the puppies. The dam and both sires and all puppies will have to be DNA'd. Good luck. you should do plenty of research before breeding! |

Sometimes (well a lot of times!) the hostility in this forum is overwhelming. I think it makes people NOT want to ask questions because they will be jumped all over. If breeders really wanted to help the breed, they will be kind and give gentle advice to inexperienced breeders, not yell at them. I wouldnt be surprised if she turns tail and runs now and just wings it from here. |

I totally agree with you!!! From the get go I have been spoken to VERY harshly! Luckily I don't give a you know what what people say to me that are like that! I take the good advice and listen to the people that want to help instead of being ugly about it...because people that write back negative posts they just get blocked and they don't get read so they are sitting there just typing away and it doesn't do a bit of good...so I get a lot of entertainment out of this website also! |
I as well as the others have been getting negative feedback when asking questions. We come here to find out important info. Ya'll act like we aren't doing our research....if we weren't doing research..then why the heck are we here!!!!! Not for our healths |

Did you get your Yorkies as adults or have you had them since they were puppies? I gather that you have never breed any of them yourself so do you know if any of them have been used for breeding before? We will be glad to help you all we can and there much to learn. Any input from you would be helpful. |
Sigh...   Nevermind... |

I've read that once a female reaches about 3 years and hasn't been bred that the uterine tissues start to toughen up and lose some of their elasticity. This could create problems if she were to become pregnant. If I'm wrong on this one, maybe someone will correct me on this. :aimeeyork :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :animal-pa :) |

I concur with Woogie Man and My Fair Lacy about the first pregnancy after age three. It is much better to start when they are younger. |
