| Question about blue eyes... I know a lot of you are professional breeders of Yorkies Have any of you ever bred Maltese? Or know anybody who has. I know that some breeders do breed a few kinds of dogs or have switched breeds over the years... I know NOTHING about Maltese or Shih tzu's, so trying to learn. Well my Ava has blue eyes. I just did a goggle search. I didn't even notice it until I took her PICS. All I could find was a Yahoo answers (which is just ANYBODY answering) And they say its a fault.????? It said they can be dumb or deaf...or both! She sees and hears great, thank goodness...but I am kinda shocked

| Congratulation on your new babies. Are her eyes really blue or are you just talking about blue tint when the camera flashes? |

BLUE BLUE... I didnt see it until the pic... then held her up to look closely. I was so careful checking teeth, eyes, butt , spine...everything I could think of... But I had no idea they were blue...OR that I should have watched out for that before getting a Maltese... I'm just glad she hears and sees well. If what I read under the Yahoo answers is correct. I have no plans on breeding so that dont even play into it. I think she pretty. But I have looked up lots of pics and their eyes are dark with dark noses...Duhhhh me... I just hope this isnt a sign anything else "could" be wrong with her

| I have read that blue eyes is fairly common in Maltese and is considered a fault. Hopefully she is healthy otherwise. I don't think it necessarily means she will be blind or deaf. |

My Maltese has blue eyes.....I was told he was very rare. Is this true? A blue eyed Maltese is not "rare". Blue eyes are a fault according to the Maltese standard and should not be kept for breeding or to be shown, but the fact that a Maltese has blue eyes does not hinder it's ability to be a wonderful pet. they also seem to have a lot of the same problems as Yorkies~! Luxating Patella's etc..thanks again~!
