Biewers and Yorkies?
 
I have absolutely no reason for wanting to know the answer to this question but I don't remember anyone ever asking so here goes...What happens if you breed an Biewer with a Yorkie? What will their babies look like? One or the other or a mix of both?

Edited to add - This is a totally hypothetical question.

I'm not an expert.. but I believe that they can come out one way or another! Just depends. Its like humans with different eye or hair colors. But one HAS to be a biewer in order for that to happen. But I'm sure some of our Biewer experts will explain! Sorry if I was wrong!

A breeding between a biewer and a standard colored yorkie results in standard color puppies...

Ok, so I was wrong, sorry!. Is it Parti's that can come out one way or another??

You must have 2 dogs with the piebald gene to get parti pups.

If you take a Biewer (has 2 piebald genes) and a standard yorkie (0 piebald genes), you get all puppies with 1 piebald gene. These will all look like standard yorkies but be carriers of the gene.

If you take a Biewer and breed with a standard yorkie that is a parti carrier (has 1 gene like the pups above), then you'll get some biewers and some standard-looking carriers.

Thanks for the information. I've always wondered. So, the million dollar question - If you breed a Biewer with a Yorkie will the pups be considered mixed? It would seem to me that would be the case? Again, just curious.

If they are yorkies that carry the gene, they are called splitters. Some breeders breed exclusively biewer to biewer and some breed back to yorkies occassionally.

The pups can be born to look like standard Yorkies OR Biewers.

Yes, if you are talking about registration guess they would be considered mixed breed because a Biewer is registered as a separate breed and the Yorkshire Terrier is a separate breed.

Depends on who you ask.:rolleyes: And depends on "who" you are referring to. There is still alot up in the air w/ Biewers and no consensus amongst the breeders.

I really know very little about Biewers but don't they have a separate registery? I thought a Biewer was a breed from the UK and the parti Yorkie was created in the U.S. but was registered as a Yorkshire Terrier. All I know is I have seen some pictures of some beautiful Biewers

They have bred biewers with yorkies....and I'm sure if you ask one of the biewer breeders on here, they can tell you what they will look like..I have seen a girl from a splitter litter, and she was darker but you could tell she had some biewer in her

Ok, correct me if I am wrong as I dont know that much about biewers. I was under the impression that biewers cant be bred to yorkies and be registered as biewers. So, how does a splitter litter fit in to the "breeding" program? I believe this was under the code of ethics for biewers.

Also, I saw, in person, my first biewer this week-end!!! She was very cute and pretty. But, defineately not a yorkie!!! There were lots of differences between the two breeds. This was an import from Germany.

Sometimes, it's important to breed a biewer back to a yorkie, if you don't, and you just keep producing biewers from both biewer parents, the biewers start getting all washed out looking, mostly white..I feel every so many litters, they need to breed back to a yorkie to keep the beautiful biewer colors

I was told splitters are to bring color back into the biewers.. I'd love to have a splitter or one of Kathy or Dee's babies! :D

Some of the biewers that have come over from Germany, are not very nice looking..My little guy came from Germany, and he's washed out looking, his ears never came up, and I could go on and on, but, he's very loveable, and I wouldn't trade him for the world..there are different looking biewers and some of them are to die for...I know if I get another one, what I will be looking for..

Again, it depends on who you ask and who's 'code of ethics' you are following. There are several different Biewer 'groups' if you will working with these dogs right now--all of them have their own 'code of ethics' and opinions on what the 'official regulations' for Biewers should be and of course everyone believes that they are in the right. Some think they are a separate breed, some think they are just a variation of Yorkies,. Some practice only breeding Biewer to Biewer, some incorporate standard colored Yorkies to their line. Being new in comparison to other, established breeds, Biewers still have a long way to go before there becomes 'universal.'

There are some beautiful pups on that site!!!! I can't believe there is one for $6000!! I would love to have one, but I don't know to much about them...I had never heard of them until I got on this site!

Thanks for all the info!!!! Very confusing!!! I hope they get it all worked out and work together on this. the beiwer I saw was very soft coated and had that kind of sun-burned black and white color. She was really cute.

A Biewer should look identicle to a Yorkshire Terrier except for the color. And yes, there is a LOT of controversy and disagreement in the Biewer world..it's a doozie :rolleyes:

I would have to say that this biewer look more like a shih-tzu./yorkie/papillon mix to me. She did not have a level top-line or was not even close to being conformationally similar to a Yorkie. Her face was very Yorkie like but the ear placement was not quite correct. She was very cute and lovable. If they are supposed to look like a Yorkie, then this person must have gotten ripped off to the tune of a few thousand dollars plus shipping from Germany. I hope they can get the breed standard down for this fledgling breed.

Controversy is an understatement!

I have both...as you can see my 2 yorkies look very different from each other and my biewer looks different from both the yorkies.

They also have very different personalities...But I wouldn't ever put a blanket statement on the breed. They are individual souls and beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I just hope there will be fewer unethical breeders of biewers as people become more educated... I guess it is good to have a dream. :(


I will tell you it takes some fortitude to be able to deal with people who make disparaging remarks... people who know nothing of Biewers who argue that it is a mixed breed...Vets & Vet Techs who think they know everything... and people who are just downright rude about commenting how what kind of dog a person owns.

I love my babies...all of them...for their quirks, faults and unconditional love back. I am very lucky!

I'll try to add to the explanation.

A biewer mated to a biewer produces biewers.

A biewer mated to a splitter (1/2 yorkie, 1/2 biewer--looks like a yorkie usually) will produce some biewers and some splitters.

A splitter mated to a splitter can produce either splitters or biewers.

OK, here is another question. If the Biewer people are trying to get a separate breed and it looks like they have done that because of the registries for them, in Germany and now in the USA, then why must they continue to breed with Yorkies? I thought they were a "separate breed" and "not a Yorkie" and can stand on their own.

Because they originated from 2 purebred yorkies..
