| I have a question please After a mom has her pups when is the earliest she can be separated from her babies (after she socializes with them too) and will her ninnys be drawed up or how long does that take? She had her babies on Feb 10th. Thanks Vicki

| Everyone has different opinions on this but I think if at all possible the pups need to be able to nurse until they are 7 weeks old. By 7 weeks the puppies should be eating well on their own. I introduce my pups to ground up dry food at 4 weeks of age and by the time the pups are 6 weeks the mom does not need to be with them all the time because the pups are only nursing a few times a day but she still needs to have some access to them for socialization skills. I have 8 week old pups now and even though the mom is pretty much dried up she still lets them nurse some. The mom does not want to stay with the pups but just goes to visit and play with them about 3 times a day. As to how long it takes for them to draw up, that depends on the number of puppies the bitch is nursing and when they stop nursing them. Weaning at my house is a slow process because once the puppies start eating solid food then the demand for momma milk lessens each day so by the time the pups are 8 weeks old the mother should be pretty much dried up. |

| It depends on the mom when she is ready for them to quit nursing. Some breeders like to push the pups out at 6 weeks so they can make that sell at 8 weeks. My Shania let hers nurse on and off up to almost 11 weeks. Of course they were eating puppy food too. I let mom take control of this as she wishes too. Some are ready to give them up earlier than others and since we keep ours at least 12 weeks no big hurry for us or mom. Are you maybe looking at adopting a mother that has had pups? or? LOL what ya up too. Just curious Deana Prestigeous Yorkies |

| Vicki are you going to get a little girl?? I keep mine for AT LEAST 12 weeks, longer for small babies. They usually wean around 6 weeks, give or take a week or so. Then the other 6 weeks are used for socialization. |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | I am no expert, but I'll tell you what I recently learned! First off, Vicki, you had me dying laughing when I read the word "ninnys" Is this a southern thing, as I have never heard that before?? Cracked me up though! Anyway, my dam, Gellica, had to stop nursing at 2 weeks due to the fact that we almost lost her to Eclampsia. We were told by a couple vets to keep her away from the puppies completely. Of course, this proved to be extremely difficult, if not impossible. So, I tried to fashion a little band out of an ace bandage. I figured that way she could still lay with the babies, but they couldn't nurse. The mom also stimultes the babies for the first three weeks so they can potty - another reason why we needed mommy to be there! So, in our case we had no choice but to bottle feed until they were 5-6 weeks old (and by this time, mommy's milk was dried up.)

| It is my hopes ... The owner has offered her... We are just going to have to see how she responds to Bleu and how he responds to her . She is 2 going to be 3 and she is spayed. I might add she is adorable and beautiful. I already have in mind matching outfits! She is a cuddle bunny I have only seen her once. I want a girl I can spoil rotten along with Bleu. If this female happens to be the one we are definitely coming to the KC meetup all in matching outfits .. ME MARK BLEU DYLAN AND ? I can't tell you her name yet!
