Lois Hancock from Martinsville, Indiana needs to be EXPOSED and SHUT DOWN!!!
 

In late September of 2006 I drove out to Martinsville, Indiana to Four Paws Kennel to purchase a Teacup Yorkie. Over the phone Lois Hancock said that the puppies had been to the vet and were current on all their shots and vaccinations. All sounded well.

I went to pick up the puppy and was speechless at what I found. When I got there, she had puppies upon puppies outside the whole front of her house and all behind her house. When I went onto her front porch/sun-room, I was amazed to find out that is where she kept all her Yorkies.

The room was very unsanitary and smelled. The beds and blankets that the puppies used looked like they were a million years old and had never been washed.

I was also amazed to find out that SHE is the one who administers the shots to the puppies! One puppy had a cough and she said to me that she just started giving them some antibiotic the other day, so the puppy should be fine.

All the poor puppies had beyond matted, knotted hair because of this awful tool she uses that she thinks is a proper brush/comb for the puppies!

She leaves HARD food out for the puppies to eat, but doesn't even WATCH the puppies to make sure they are eating. Let me remind you, some of these puppies do NOT have teeth yet! How are they suppose to eat HARD FOOD??!!!

Her puppies are malnourished and very sick!!!!

I ended up purchasing a puppy because to be honest, I felt sorry for him. He was the oldest and the smallest puppy there and was sitting by himself in the corner. If he would have stayed there he would have died...

The next day after purchasing the Yorkie I knew something was not right with him. He was limp, very lethargic, and wasn't eating or drinking anything. Therefore, I rushed him into the vet, LESS THAN 24 HOURS after I had picked him up!

The vet came out and said if I would have been 15 min later, he would have DIED! They found him covered in FLEAS!!! He also had a PARASITE that was found in his stool. He had LOW BLOOD PRESSURE, which caused him to have a freezing cold body temp, even though I had him in blankets all night. He also had dangerously low Blood sugar levels that nearly killed him!

The next two days I spent over $1400 in vet bills alone! Not to mention the numerous amounts of antibiotics and vet visits that followed for the next 6 MONTHS!!!!!

I called her up that day and told her what had happened, and she BLAMED ME!!!!! She was incredibly rude and insisted that I DIDN'T take care of him and I caused the low blood sugar levels and almost killed him!

I told her that there is no possible way for someone who has had a puppy for 18 hours to be blamed for the condition that dog was in! His medical condition is something that stemmed way before I ever picked him up!

I told her I wanted her to pay for all of this and she said she wouldn't! She would give me a different puppy. Why would I give her back a puppy she almost killed?! Let alone, I didn't want another puppy from her.

Lois Hancock is a FRAUD and a horrible, dishonest person! She needs to be shut down considering she doesn't even know how to take care of a single puppy!!!

PLEASE, PLEASE, do NOT buy a puppy from this lady! I wanted to make sure everyone knew the truth about this lady so you don't have to go through the same things I did! Save your money or spend a little extra and buy a HEALTHY one somewhere else!

I encourage ANYONE who has purchased a puppy from this lady to make a report, as I am sure majority of them had a similar experience! I just found this website today, otherwise I would have posted a report the same week I purchased the puppy.... I also posted a report on RipOffReport.com

Oh my gosh!!! I am sure you have saved the poor puppy from sure death :eek: Let us know how he is doing now!!

I have heard bad things about her before on here as well.

You should make some calls to the police and the animal shelters. She's a puppy mill. I do hope your little fur boy makes a complete recovery.

You can call animal control and report her, also AKC will inspect if she is AKC and they get a complaint...I sure understand rescuing your little guy...best wishes

Welcome to YT! So sorry for all you've been thru. Is this lady still breeding - get her reported, sounds like she needs to be shut down!

What a horror story. If what you described is true, she is a menace to dogs and also she is not very bright. Your post on here hurt her a lot more than returning your purchase price would have.

have you called animal control on her???? YOU NEED TO DO THIS ASAP. this is as much your responsibility since you saw the horrible mess.

Yes in Indiana we have been having the same cold weather and snow storms as you. It is also too hot in the summer for them to be out. This is horrible:thumbdown

I am so sorry to hear about your pup. How is your puppy now? I hope he will get well soon and enjoy his life with you. Its so so sad to hear about puppy mills and how the puppies are being treated right after they are born and when they are most fragile and needed care.

Apparently she didn't just buy this puppy, so the weather was probably not as cold as it is now. Regardless, she needs to have a stop put to her puppy mill.

Could you take her to court to get some of the money back that you're out for vet bills? I would certainly would or I'd make her life a living he!! trying.

I'll be keeping my eyes open for the (hopefully) rescued yorkies from this woman!

My wife and I bought a yorkie pup from this woman a few weeks ago. When we got there we couldn't bare to leave him with this woman, he wasn't exactly what we wanted but who cares. We probably saved his young life, as she said no one else wanted him!!! I won't go into details other than to say we had the exact same experience as EVERYONE else on this thread! I have reported this woman to PETA, SPCA, Morgan county authorities, as well as ALL the local news stations and news papers. It's horrible that she has been at this all this time and nothing has changed...if we all work together perhaps we can end this atrocity!!!

How in the world does this woman, with puppies in such diplorable conditions, with ALL the reports filed against her, with soooooooo many different agencies, INCLUDING THE AKC, continue to operate? How can ALL these agencies be missing the mark on this? I do not know a thing about this lady, or anyone that has purchased a puppy from her, so I personally can not contribute anything about her or her business...but I CAN and DO wonder if it is as bad as every one has said it is, for YEARS going back, how caqn all the agencies that "serve and protect" against such a business, continue to stay in existance???? ALL these agencies have failed, not only the public, but the poor animals produced there. THESE AGENCIES SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALLOWING THIS TO CONTINUE.

I agree completely. That is why I went to the lengths that I did. I did get word that someone from the Morgan county authorities went to her property yesterday. I'm not sure who, or what/if anything was or will be done but I plan to follow up to find out. I have already been in touch with someone from PETA yesterday. I plan to peruse this as long as I can. Unfortunately the common person (me) doesn't usually have the financial backing to take the necessary steps. So I wanted to get as many people involved as I can. After my original post yesterday I contacted the Indiana State veterinarian's office but have not heard back yet. I did find out yesterday that the Morgan county human society is aware of her. I posted their response to me below.

I know who this breeder is. We've had several calls about sick pups from here. Unfortunately we do not have authority to regulate breeding in our county. The state vet is supposed to be the one that inspects these areas and the AKC organization. I doubt that the Hancocks have any connection with anyone at the State Vet office. The vet is Dr. Lovelace that you would need to speak with. We've been out to the breeders residence several times and have found no violations. Unfortunately, with that much breeding going on there tends to be alot of diseases. We are the Animal Control Department for Morgan County but are very limited on what we can legally do. If there are no violations, we can not even bring the prosecuter in on these matters. I would suggest that you file a small claims judgement with the courts to get a refund if the Hancocks do not reimburse you for the dog or the expenses. I will pass this on to our A/C officer but I doubt there is much we can do. If people continue to purchase dogs from breeders, even if the visit the location and feel comfortable buying from this breeder, what more can we do?

If you google for Lois Hancock Martinsville, IN you will get TONS of results relating to things from fraud to neglect. If anyone would like her address PM me and I'll give it to you. If anyone wants to report her as well, PM me and I will give you any info I have on her. Side note, the person I talked to yesterday, that sent someone out, said that they have had several calls on her in the last few days. PLEASE EVERYONE CALL AND REPORT HER THE MORE PEOPLE WE CAN GET INVOLVED, THE MORE THIS CANNOT GO UNNOTICED!!!!!

When someone sells directly to the public they don't need any license. There probably isn’t any agency that inspects. The problem has gotten much worse since breeders are selling directly to customers over the internet. They are trying to pass laws to fill this gap, but most breeders, even good breeders, fight these laws, people hate more regulation. Some of the worst puppy mills are selling directly to the public. That's why it's so important for people not to buy directly over the internet and go to the home in person. Not sure she uses the AKC registry, but the AKC is mainly interested in record keeping, and they can’t do much if the breeder is following state laws and some state laws are very lax. Also, they do not inspect every breeder. Many breeders don’t tell the AKC how many dogs they are breeding each year so they won’t be inspected, and they tell customers, “If you aren’t breeding or showing, you don’t need papers.” It’s up to the pet buyer to help keep breeders honest, go to the home and make sure you get AKC papers and register your dog with the AKC, even though you aren’t planning to breed or show. By registering the dog, pet owners are providing a necessary check and balance. I hope all breeders encourage people to register their pet dogs.

i started following this post a few days ago...the original post from penny dates back to 2010!!! not sure that is correct year but i do know this has been going on for quite some time....how can all these agencies drop the ball on this woman!!! im in Canada...who can i call from up here?? anything i can do to help please let me know. This woman needs to be STOPPED! stuff like this infuriates me!

Tomorrow 5/2 Lois is being forced to surrender some of the sickest puppies to the Martinsville Humane Society and then Friday the state vet is going to the puppy mill with the humane society for an inspection. This isn’t over yet, like last time Lois has been given notice to clean stuff up before the state comes in. I pray she doesn’t slip under the radar again!

why cant they do a surprise visit??? why do they keep calling this woman.(i use the term lightly) to tell her they are coming?! thats like calling a crack house to let them know the police are on their way! c'mon REALLY!! It doesn't matter where you are, call anyway & tell them where your calling from. Also everyone with a facebook acct needs to post this info. Spread the word around the world. The more people that know about this EVIL person the better. I will be calling tomorrow. Also tell them what you posted here about calling ahead to a crack house.

Everyone I have contacted I have informed of this forum. All have said that they read it. But PLEASE continue to spread the word and call them! The more complaints they get they less they can ignore it!

Great news everyone. As of today Lois Hancock has been COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN. All dogs have been surrendered to the local no kill humane society!!! Thank you to everyone who called. The human society said they have been inundated with calls in the last couple weeks. The humane society could only say. "At this point it is a legal matter, and we can't tell you anything else" So charges are being brought against her!!!! The state vet has shut her down. Wooooo Hooooo!!!!!
