This is long. I feel so bad. This happened all because of my ignorance. I wish I was wrong, but I don't think I am. The only excuse I have (and it probably isn't a good one), is that I'm not at all familiar with dogs in heat as I have never bred before. Cookie had been bred 2 weeks before I got her.

OK! I got Ciara in October, I thought she was just going out of her first heat, so I didn't expect her to be in heat again before April. Cookie was due to go into heat in February, so when I first saw blood on the potty pad in January, I was suprised, but I thought that Cookie was going into heat a month early. I kept checking under her, but other than blood, I didn't know what I was looking for and never saw anything. Not even blood. I was beginning to think somebody had a UTI or something. Then I noticed blood on my pillow where Ciara had been sleeping. I checked under her and she was the one that was in heat. I don't know how long she had been in heat, I remember that the first day I saw blood was January 9th.

As soon as I realized she was in heat, I was very vigilant. I started putting diapers and onesies on her and keeping her confined when I went anywhere or taking Caesar with me so he wouldn't be there to bother her.

It must have already been to late, because her belly's getting big. I think she's at least 4 or 5 weeks pregnant. The vet said I could take her in for a blood test and advised that I have her xrayed in another week or two to make sure the puppies aren't going to be to big.

How old is Ciara?

She is just over 10 months. I am so unhappy that this happened. I love my babies so much. I was truly going to wait until at least her 2nd heat, which I thought would be in April. I actually thought that since she would only be one year old then that I might even wait until her 3rd heat.

How much does she weigh and how big is the male? It is possible that she is just have a false pregnancy. Often their nipples will start getting big and their bellies will get pudgy. You first saw blood on January 9, how long after that did you start putting a diaper on her? Was she alone with your male very often? Did you ever see your male trying to mount her? If figure if she did get accidentally bred she would be due somewhere around the 20th of March. You should know for sure in about two weeks or sooner depending on how many puppies she might be carrying. Lets just hope it is a false pregnancy. In the mean time make sure she is eating a good quality puppy food just in case she is pregnant.

geez shame on y 10 months old a baby having babies i would get exrays and all y can do to make sure her pelvis is mature enough to deliver

She weighs 4 lbs 12 oz and Caesar weighs 3 lbs 7 oz. I thought of a false pregnancy and I sure hope that's what it is. The vet says to do a blood test. Will that determine the difference between a real pregnancy and a false pregnancy?

Yes I am going to get the puppy food this afternoon. It might have been a week after I saw the first blood when I figured out it was her. Like I said I wasn't expecting her to go into heat before April. As soon as I knew it was her I started putting diapers and onesies on her and wraps on him and didn't leave them alone if I could help it and then I put her in xpen. As often as I could I took Caesar with me if I went somewhere. Could she have been in heat before I saw the blood?

Im not a breeder but just wanted to say that Im sorry this happened and what is done is done. all you can do is take very good care of mommy and if she is pregnant take care of the babies which Im sure you will. Godd luck :)

When a female comes in heat she usually bleeds for 7 to 9 days. The female will be receptive to the male usually from the 9th through the 18th day, after the bleeding has stopped, that is when they are most likely to conceive. They should have been kept separated for 3 weeks from the first time you saw blood. Your female is pretty small so that would be my biggest concern since she is so young. If the vet can do a blood test to confirm her pregnancy then you might want to do that. You would not want to x-ray her until she gets further along.

I am not a breeder nor do I intend to be but just wanted to wish you luck. I can tell by your post how upset you are and that it was an accident. Everyone has accidents!!! Everyone!!!! Take care and I sure hope everything turns out ok.

That's just it, she bled the whole time! If I count from the 9th when I first saw the blood, she bled for at least 3 weeks straight! As soon as I realized that it was her that was bleeding I kept them both covered and penned her up when I when I left them both at home, which I seldom did. I took Caesar with me as much as I could.

It sounds like you did your best to keep them apart so we can just hope she is not pregnant. Accidents do happen and you will just have to wait and see. Just keep us posted and if your vet confirms that she is pregnant then we will be here to support you all that we can.

I will take her in for an xray, but I have to wait until I guess she's about 50 days. 50 days is what the vet says.

Be sure to give us an update in about a week and let us know how she is looking. If she is pregnant she should still be swollen and she will start having a clear discharge.

Will do! Thanks for being so understanding. This is definitely not something I wanted to happen. I'm still praying that it's a false pergnancy!
