adding to your breeding program questions 4 Attachment(s) i know i have been really asking a lot of questions lately but im trying to decide what to do with my situration. okay i currently have my female yorkie, gidget & little girl is my yorkie/pom mix gidget had a litter 3 weeks ago...which im sure some of you remeber me asking questions about my littlest. she had 3 boys and 2 girls gidget is registered with ckc, apr, napdr and uabr and so are the babies with the leftover money i would like to buy me a good breeder quality male. and i know most of you would say make sure he is akc. but my dog is ckc and if i keep one of the females to add to my breeding program, that female is ckc. and they are really precious looking. i had a waiting list for some of the males already. so that leaves the 2 females, 1 for me 1 to sell and i have 1 male available as well. But someone inquired last night for both females. if i sold both then i could also get an akc female, but i dont know if i want to. i cant decide which female to keep either. here are pics of my females....i would like to get some thoughts on what you would do... |
You could post pics of the parents, all puppies are cute. Best to judge them for yourself, do they adhere to the standard? In other words are the good representations of the breed? And we must remember to be brutally honest with ourselves. If not, I would not keep a puppy at all. I'd buy a really nice male and female (AKC) after much research. Concerning AKC or CKC, a few on YT have CKC dogs that breed. There are also nice quality CKC yorkies and if you're selling for companions, CKC will do. I prefer AKC as many do that doesn't matter lol. Hope this helps and is of course, just my opinion. |
i have pics of the parents on my website but not on the computer anymore i rehomed the male to a friend because he was to large..the females seem to be in a good weight area right now, but im sure that could change if im allowed to post my website address i will |
The one at freewebs isn't available it says... I wouldn't think it would be a problem, lots of people post theirs for opinions. |
I prefer AKC, but it's all a personal preference. I have one CKC dog, Maddie, and the rest of mine are AKC. Maddie is definitely a purebred dog, I've had her checked out, researched her background, etc. BUT there are too many people registering non-purebreds through CKC right now. I'm sure it will get better in the future, but right now there is still a lot of controversy. |
im sorry it didnt work i know i have been having some problems i just checked it and it worked..maybe i typed it wrong on my profile www.freewebs.com/tammyspuppiesandmore |
You are placing your puppies at only 8 weeks?:( |
if their weight is good i do place at 8 weeks. i have never had a problem bring home a puppy at that age and my experience with the mothers is after a certain point the mothers dont have any thing to do with them. i know that a lot of breeder will disgree and state that they will get the socialization from mom at 8-12 weeks but i have noticed that my first female ignored them after they started weaning and other dogs that i have grown up with and seen bred do about the same. so yes if they arent tiny which it doesnt look like it, except 1 of them i will let them go at 8 weeks |
I have a female that isn't interested with her puppies when they reach 8 weeks either but that is when I socialize the puppies with my other dogs and humans in my home. JMHO they should never leave at 8 weeks whether they be 4 pounds at 8 weeks or whatever...JMHO Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
i dont want to sound unappreciative of your concern but i would rather this did not become a heater debate over when i rehome the puppies. that wasnt even close to what i posted about. thank you |

You are right, it was off topic. I noticed it and commented after I looked at your website that you posted. Sorry for not sticking to your topic about expanding your program. |
Heated debate? Am I lost, did I miss something? I was just giving an opinion :) isn't that allowed on an open forum? Turning heated isn't anyone's intentions to my knowledge :) Donna Bird Brooklynn's Yorkshire Terriers |
hey bama you have to know im not mad at ya! i know that you always have the best intentions at heart and are extremely informative |
Where did you get your original breeding male and female dogs?? Do you feel AKC would be better quality?? |

Good luck in your endeavors. |
and i didnt say it was a heated dicussion i stated i dont want it to BECOME a heated diccusion my female is ckc but her pedigree has some nice champions in it im not sure why she isnt akc honestly. but her coat isnt as nice as i had hoped for but its getting better, especially since she had the babies. her parents where perfect examples of what i wanted short cobby bodies, long silky coats one was silver the other was black my male was to large, but i nice coat, long thick and silky dark black with a lot of gray in his face. when i got him i saw his mother, i wasnt inpressived but i had driven a long time. i was told his father was akc 3lbs. but the litter wasnt registered so i took copies are the akc certification and pics and sent it into to ckc. and registered my litter. when i called akc, the grandfather of my male wasnt DNA tested after AKC started requring DNA testing so he was unacceptable by AKC standards after that. this is what akc told me anyways which basically is what the breeder told me |

hey bama dont worry about......its all good:D |
When considering changes, adding dogs included, I'd strongly recommend evaluating goals of a breeding program. A mission statement of sorts for yourself. Asking a few questions of ones self such as...Do I want to provide companion dogs for other people that represent the standard? Do I want to produce a dog that I can show? Are my dogs healthy? Are their ancestors healthy? Am I incredibly proud of my dogs and the dogs they produce? These are a few. I've went through these questions myself and thought, where do I want to be 20 years from now in my breeding program? And I starting doing what I needed to get on the path. Probably too heavy for your question, just ignore if so. Buying new dogs can be very expensive so it is something to think about... |
It is my understanding, correct me please if I am wrong.. but If you have an AKC or a CKC (canadian kennel club) that you can apply for the opposite then what you have.. If your yorkie is of standard of course. I am thinking as I type, are you talking continental kennel club. I do get confused when people just say CKC. I do not know much about the continental one..I know this was not your question, but an opportunity for me to ask this question at the same time as seeing this post. I am not wanting to change your subject at all.. |
no mine are continental kennel club so i cant register them with akc |
If I were you, I'd sell all puppies and buy a nice, quality bitch that is AKC and start over. Spay/neuter the adults that you have and place them in pet homes. If you're going to do something, do I right...and no, that isn't meant to be ugly. JMO |

txshopper: it didnt sound ugly sounded proffessional i cant rehome the yorkie-pom thats more my husbands dog and we have had her a long time but i will be spaying her soon. im am leaning more towards selling them all and purchasing 2 akc's a male and a female but i dont really want puppies im hoping to get them around 5-6 months of age |
