Here is a good link that shows lots of Red Legged Yorkies, including my baby. I need to post a picture of her as an adult. Her hair is growing pretty well, but the hair on her ears never ever grows. They have never been shaved and don't have any hair growing off of the edges of them. I'll try to get a good picture tomorrow... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...-yorkie-3.html |
Sorry, I am a novice. What does it mean to "throw" color? Is that a breeder term? |

I love the look of your yorkie. Maybe is what my ZoE is? Is that why I keep looking at puppies (searching for a 2nd) and can't seem to find one that looks like her. She was never "fluffy" as a puppy. And at 11 months old is still the darker black & tan (which I personally love), althought I do see some lighter silvery colour coming through. And she's not had her hair cut ever and it is still relatively short and is slow-growing. |
pls help me here is my 4 months old yorkie she is same as yours will the leg hair get longer :aimeeyork |
4 Attachment(s) I used to think my little Max was a red legged yorkie, because up until he was about 7 or 8 months he had this deep red color on his legs and face. Plus his hair was sparse and coarse, but soft and silky in some areas. Now he's a 1 and a half he has a nice silky coat that I'm in the process of growing out. It's growing quite fast. Attachment 377452 This is my little red baby at 4 months. Attachment 377453 This is him about 3 months ago. Attachment 377454 Attachment 377455 And the last two are a few days ago. |

I suspect that Toki may be red-legged (although I had not really heard of this until recently and like I'd be able to properly identify it anyway haha)...she has rich coloring on her legs and face and her back is still very dark at 1 year 2 months but her coat isn't hard or brittle. Her coat grows out with flecks of gray in it but when we cut it short, it appears to be very dark and still black. I guess we'll see how her coat evolves over the next several months :) |

My girl is several years old now, and her hair never grows long. Her leg hair is short, too. I think she actually has less hair than she did as a pup. I'll try to post a recent picture of her later today if I can get a good picture. I want to tell you that I was a little disappointed to discover that she would never have a long, traditional coat. However, she is now my favorite dog. I also have three Giant Schnauzers and a tiny little 2.8 pound adult Yorkie with a perfect floor length coat. All four dogs take SO much time to groom. My girl, Izzy, looks great all the time with no grooming. I sometimes shave her body hair into a very short Schnauzer cut, and that makes her look like she has some leg hair and a long beard and eyebrows. She loves looking like the big Schnauzers, too. She's my favorite in personality, too. SUPER SMART, and very healthy. No reverse sneezing or tooth problems or other things you often see in Yorkies that have been bred down for looks(if that makes sense). When I told my husband why I was typing on my iPad just now to someone who has a dog like Izzy, he said "tell her we'll trade her for Oscar(my perfect guy with a champion pedigree), lol. He was just kidding, of course, because he loves Oscar too. However, he's always saying all the dogs were as smart and easy to care for as Izzy is. Hope this helps some. Your dog will be you best friend one day like my Izzy is to me! |
Throwing pups, lol... Quote:
Izzy had one litter before I had her spayed and I know how her pups turned out because they went to family members. Two had correct coats, and one was sort of in between a red leg and a correct coat (similar to others listed on this thread). The father had a silk coat. |
