Oh Wow guys, this thread has gotten so ugly :(

I truly hope something good comes out of all of this somehow. Dena please continue to take your time in deciding whether or not you want to start breeding Yorkies. It's a full time job and then some and you have your own health to consider as well. You don't need the added stress of breeding on top of it all.

Wishing you and all your babies only the best.

Wasn't there a post recently on prayers needed for you because you weren't in good shape health wise. I did say a prayer for you as I wish for everyone to be in the best of health. It is up to you what you do with your yorkies as they are yours and you will do what you want anyway. Just maybe you can work on feeling better and getting healthy before you take on something as huge a breeding. JMHO

I look at conforming to breed standards before anything else. I also go back at least 3 gen in the line and talk to those breeders about past litters, specifically about litter size, birth weights, mortality rates, temperment histories...my mentor has taught me that...In considering a male & female I also look at those traits that should be reinforced and those which should not.
Finally, and this is a quote from a book by Chris Walkowicz & Bonnie Wilcox DVM "Successful Dog Breeding" which I believe can not be said any clearer:

A Firm Foundation-Soundness
A dog cannot function well in any arena-work, show or pet- without being physically and mentally healthy. Soundness is the ultimate prerequisite for a breeding animal. Any dog that is not totally sound should not be bred. There are not buts.

My Dad raised horses all my life- when he said that's a sound horse- I knew it was a great animal- coming for him! I only heard him say it a very few times!
