| Just wanted to know if giving Abby 1 tablespoon of dark beer in the am will help with milk production. I'm not sure that she is producing a lot of milk. The puppies seem to really yank on her when the nurse and then after about 2 minutes look for another tit. Vet says they are healthy and fat looking. They are gaining weight, but seem to nurse every 20 min. or so. So know Abby is producing some milk just not alot. So was wondering about the beer as I have heard this helps, or if there is something else that I could do. Vet says do not give beer to dogs and that tums don't really help as you need to give them alot to help with calcium production. Kind of confused. Thanks for your help. Deb

| i read that on Debbie jensen's website about whelping. My girls always get one teaspoon immediately after whelping and that's all. I don't know if it does any good or not but it certainly hasn't hurt anything. In your case, just the puppies nursing on her stimulates milk production. |

| Hi, Did you get her an oxytocin shot after whelping? Oxytocin helps them clean out, but it also helps with milk letdown. I don't know if it would still work, I don't know when she had the puppies. It might be worth calling the vet about. My little girl (named Abby also by the way) didn't pass a placenta, and didn't have much milk after her first litter, so I got her an oxytocin shot and she passed the placenta and started making more milk. | I asked the vet today when I took the pups in for their tail and dew claws and he said that she was fine. The pups looked fat and healthy. I just know that they seem to eat so often and really yank as if there isn't alot of milk coming. They have been gaining weight. Almost double birth weight. They were born 1/9 early am. I asked after she finished having pups if he needed to see her and give her the oxitocin shot and he said no. To just keep an eye out and take temp, every am. and if she was eating, peeing and pooping fine. Everything was ok.

| Yea it is such a joy to be able to sit and watch them eat and grow. Oh my gosh they have grown. In about a week they have almost doubled their weight. They are so cute, now that they have their tails cut. Not they weren't before. They have settled down now. They cried all day yesterday. Stressed me and abby out. They have all settled now and now can't wait to see them with their eyes open.
