I am too afraid to use heat lamps heard too many stories.

My whelping bed is large enough to have to areas, one warmed the other not, if mom gets too warm she moves. This also eliminates her to messing up the bed finding a cooler spot.

That is what I did, I had a nice large whelping area. As Bell gave birth, I moved the pups to the heating pad if she was ready to have the next. It worked out very well, and I was very lucky to have three very healthy pups. Thank God.

I didn't use a heating pad or a heat lamp... it was just last month that I had pups, and my ac broke.. and it was very warm outside... and inside.

I kept the room at 80+ for the first 10 days, then I dropped the temp in the room to 78 ect... my vet had told me how warm to keep the room, and the area the pups are in. I have them completely protected against any breeze.

We now have a room ac (reg ac isn't fixed yet) and this is how we are able to control the temp in the room.

I have had to use the furnace at night when we are camping to keep the room warm enough.

The pups are going to be 4 weeks this friday... so it has worked for me.

Mom was too warm, so I used cool cloths on her often, we all were very warm... but it was a blessing I guess for the ac to break.

I tried the heating pad at first, on low with many towels ect.. but it was too hot for the pups... and the vet informed me that keeping the room the right temp was better for them instead of a heating pad or a heat lamp.

It has worked for us, but not the most comfortable those first few days.
