pedigree I am going to be a snob on this one...yes, it can produce beautiful pups..but the pedigree has gone from champion to pet in 3 generations...I am not saying a non-champion cannot be beautiful, but it is unlikely they are the best of the best now. |
I'm not sure what I would do without this forum! Thanks so much for the help, I really appreciate it. So I am emailing the breeder right now and I will ask for vet references and if I can speak to the vet regarding inbreeding. (She did email me the other day saying the pup has just been in for it's first shots and checked out okay) If I'm not satisfied I will ask for the deposit back seeing as how I could not have found this information without getting the parents AKC #'s (which were on my reciept I got in the mail today) The breeder so far has been very good about providing information for me when I need it so hopefully getting this info will not be a problem either. One other question. If the breeder has taken the dog to the vet and it did check out okay can I assume it is free of livershunts etc...? |
No, vets do not automatically test for a liver shunt...at least not in my area. There is fasting in this type of testing. You have to request to have this testing done. |
pup Unfortunely, no..a check means almost nothing regarding many genetic problems. A puppy check tells the vet if the pups have worms, fleas, ear mites, hernia's, bad knees..all the easy to fix stuff. GENETIC PROBLEMS are not readily seen by a simple well puppy check up. It takes time for many things to show up. Liver shunt needs a bile acid test for a starter. What I see most from breeders who breed too close is neurological problems within about 2 yrs. They may never happen..this pup can be perfectly fine for a life time..all I am saying is..inbreeding is risky..I have bred for 33 yrs and have tried it all...I get the best and healthiest by linebreeding. Okay, so I know I may be grabbing at short straws here but I'm double, triple checking the pedigrees. This is the weird part. On the Dam's pedigree it says next to "breeder" my breeders name On the Sire's pedigree it says next to "breeder" 2 people of which neither is my breeder. Isn't that strange? |
it seems she didnt own her stud, thats all! |
Please let us know what your breeder said? I am really curious how this all turns out. |
pup Kimberly is right..no problem with that aspect of the pedigree. The breeder no doubt used someone else's stud..done all the time. |
Oh okay. Thanks guys! I haven't heard from my breeder yet, but as soon as I do I will post again. |

Thanks LvMyYorki! I've been researching for about 2 years now. After everything I had learned from this site I did realize how important getting a reputable breeder was. I have been hounding a breeder in PA (Edgewood Yorkies) Maybe some of you have heard of it. I have followed this breeder for several months (she does alot of shows) I really want to get a puppy from her but it just hasn't worked out yet. Then I heard from the breeder of this puppy in question who seemed very nice and I decided to go with her. But now I think I will change my mind and wait for an Edgewood yorkie. |
I did the same thing... I really wanted a Yorkie from the show breeder I got Bunny from and just had to keep waiting and waiting for "my puppy" to appear in one of the litters... I too waited for months, but it was totally worth it! I had picked two other little girls before Bunny but wasnt able to get the other two bc of size issues or they were going to be for breeding/ show. Its hard to get a girl from a show breeder unless the female is going to be too small to breed. Are you getting a male or female? |
I always tell the breeder the sex of the dog is no big deal. But deep down I think I want a boy most, which usually works out because they seem to be more available |
Actually , I am looking for a puppy too . As I always said no matter if it is a boy or a girl , I want a healthy puppy . |
I PM'd you. |
