Yorkie CPR

I sure hope no one has to use this but just in case.........
*note this CPR way is only for small dogs do not try this way on larger dogs!
Lay the Yorkie on a flat surface on it's right side & extend the head back to open an airway. Open jaws to check for any objects in mouth &/or throat (do place fingers inside...ask Chelsea why..see my OUCH blog). If not easily removed hold Yorkie upside down by their back end & shake vigorously to try to remove anything. Next cup your hands around the Yorkie's mouth so that only the nose is clear. Blow into the nose w/5 or 6 quick, short, & shallow breaths. Check for heartbeat place your index finger on the inside of the thigh (just above the knee) if no pulse put hand over chest where elbow touches the middle of the chest. If still nothing have 1 person to keep breathing in nose while the other person gives cardiac massage (if only 1 person they do both of these, also yell for help) Cardiac Massage: place hand palm down between 3rd & 6th rib on chest (if puppy or a very small dog use thumb). Use the heel of your hand for 10 quick compressions & then check to see if Yorkie is awake. If not yell for help again and continue compressions 10 every 6 seconds 10 cycles a minute. Like I said I hope no one to use this but it's a good thing to know just in case. I saw this on TV, read about it on the web, and saw it taught here in my home town....
