![]() | If you have had a skin scraping and ruled out allergies of any kind, there is a product that I purchased for my scratchy male called Miracle Coat. He has a very wirey coat and his skin appears to be much dryer than my female who has fur like silk. You may also be overbathing the animal, in that the skin needs time to restore the natural oils, which are continuously washed away from bathing. I bathe my two once per month, twice max. The animal may also be sensitive to the shampoo. Try a natural brand with skin soothing ingredients like oatmeal. Another excellent product is Groom-Aid by Evsco. It's a conditioning grooming spray used on damp fur before drying and at those times when they need a quick freshening. Also, do you use anything on the grass or on the carpet that may be causing a skin allergy? Do you notice a pattern of scratchiness? Do you see anything on the skin (flaking, redness, bites)? Perhaps, no-see'ms or mites in the lawn? There are so many factors to rule out. Dryer sheets used on the towels that come into contact with the dog's skin? When everything is ruled out and bathing is at a minimum, you may want to ask your vet about Benedryl. The dose is 1 mg/1 lb of weight, however age is a factor, so check with your vet first. |
