Need some help - I think we're choking!

We have never owned a small dog before. Our little Scooter, every once in a while, acts like he is choking and trying to cough something up. This does not happen all the time, maybe twice a week. Is this normal in Yorkies? He doesn't even have to be eating anything, he just starts it at any given time. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

It might just be some allergies, dust, etc. If it were daily, I would have him checked for Kennel cough, but sometimes you just have a dog that tends to do this once in a while. Be sure to ask your vet about it his next appointment.

We suspected the same thing and asked our vet. He suggested because they are so close to the ground (or floor) it was probably an allergic reaction to dust or something. And, it did eventually go away.

Missy does that as well and I gently rub her throat and she spots coughing.

Our yorkie, Baby, lived for 15 years and she did the same thing off and on the whole time. I don't think you need to worry about it but you may feel better if you ask your vet. Jackie & my Sophie

Bella does the same thingshe coughs like she has a hairball like our cat, Rocky. I massage her throat to see and feel if there is a problem. She stops and we're back on with the playing and silliness
