Why?

I'm having a little bit of trouble wrapping my brain around shelters/rescues.
We searched every place we could to find our 2 fur babies. The first place we checked was at our local shelters/rescues. The prices they wanted for fees was OUTRAGEOUS!! Way out of our league and if we could afford to pay those prices, we've went through a private breeder and at least got them registered!!
To me, having fur family members and having vet bills, it does not cost that much to have the shots, to feed, or to have them spayed/neutered!!
Come on!! They are little dogs, not small horses like some breeds can grow too!!
My thoughts are, if you are really wanting to find a good, loving home for one of your fur babies, if you've rescued them or if someone comes to the shelter and can no longer take care of their little one, don't charge a ridicioulous amount for someone who could give them a WONDERFUL forever home!! A bigger price tag, does not mean a better home!!
If you have children of the 2 legged variety, I'm sure you check out daycare, doctors, friends they play with, etc. You can also do this with the four legged kids too!!
You wouldn't let some stranger take your children, why would you do it with a pet?
I understand that their are breeders who do check future owners out, and I also understand that some breeders have kennels that are their income, but if you are honestly rescuing a dog, wanting to rehome a dog, then setting a large amount won't ensure the perfect home.
Please keep in mind, these are my thoughts and I apologize to anyone who might read this and get their toes stepped one!!
