Welcome to YT. We have a 4 month old female. She isn't a small yorkie though, she already weighs almost 9 pounds, but we love her just the same. Plus we are glad that she isn't small, we have small children. Good luck on your search.

Hi..I have a small yorkie under 5 lbs. She is tiny. I wouldn't trade her for the world. My only advice is tiny yorkies have a lot of medical problems due to their size. They are not as healthy as the larger size. I have a 9 lb one who is 13.5 yrs old and was never sick until this year. My baby who is now 8 yrs. has had more problems than I want to count. I know several people with "teacups" and they all have health problems due to their size. Just tought I would let you know what my experience has been........

Hello, I have a small yorkie under 5 lbs. I love him more than anything! He doesn't have bad health problems. He just has allergies, but they are not bad. He is 8 months old, and the only real problem I have had with him is that his third eye lid has pushed on his tear gland and it is very swollen. The vet has given me medicine and says that it is a common problem in yorkies due to their allergies. If the medicine does not take care of his problem, he will have to have surgery to remove his tear gland. I sure hope the meds work. Good Luck on your search!! Let me know if I can be of any more assistance.

Hi, I have a 9-month (today!) Yorkie girl Lucy who weighs 3lbs 9 ounces and has a great playful personality. Unfortunately we have already had our share of problems -- a fractures tibia in the first two weeks of her coming home but then she was doing fine, was running around and fetching her favorite rubber ball for us. Today, all of a sudden, she wouldn't step on the same foot again but showed no signs of pain. We took her to the Vet who told us that her knee cap is out which is a very common problem for small Yorkies; he put her on an anti-inflammatory medication and hopes that we don't have to resort to surgery! Anyone having this problem with tea-cups?

First of all, there really isn't a teacup breed, they are just small. And yes, luxating patella is very common in small breed dogs. Our Daisy, who is 4 1/2 months old and 9 pounds already has loose knee caps. Our vet told us just to watch them and hopefully they won't need surgery. We too have had a visit to the er vet with Daisy, our daughter stepped on her right hind leg and we thought it was broken, Thank God it wasn't.

Hi again...I have the yorkie Tina under 5 lbs. And there are no such breed as Teacup Yorkies. They are just the smaller of the puppy. Tina has a bad knee. She tore her ACL muscle and turned her knee cap around. Poor little thing was in severe pain. Vet had to do surgery. It was a success, but if she jumps on it wrong, she injures it she will limp for two or three days and has to take pain meds. She has teeth problems.(infections). She has had annual cleanings, but almost lost her 2 yrs. ago. She had a reaction to anesthesia. It was the same one she always had. They lost her heart rate and breathing. We were lucky. No ill affects. She has stomach problems as I said earlier. (acid). She vomits and won't eat. She only has her rabies shot because it is State law because she had such a reaction to her vaccinations the Vet recommended not to give them to her. She is not a good eater which is not good for a small dog as they lose weight fast. She has seperation anxiety from me. If I leave her she gets very upset and will sometime vomit and will nibble on her blanket. She goes with me most of the time so I don't have to leave her often.

hello! i agree with the others on here about teacup yorkies...there's no such thing. yorkies are already a toy breed to begin with that i think starts off normally at 3 1/2lbs and up at adult weight. anything smaller, will most likely not be as healthy. they're super cute though when they're small like that, but you might end up paying alot of money for procedures if they aren't well. not to mention the mental and emotional stress that you'll have to go through as well. i don't want to discourage you in any way from purchasing a yorkie, just don't purchase yours from someone who says they have teacup yorkies. a reputable breeder will not say that. good luck in your journey to finding you little one!
