My Yorkie is pregnant and due any day, I am a nervous wreck. I have talked to her Vet, and her breeder, and done so much research. I took her temp today rectally with a digital thermometer and it was 98.1. She is panting now, I keep telling myself I can handle this, I am a RN and my daughter is a med student.........but its not working we both are sitting her staring at her She has stopped panting now and she is just laying in her whelping box.

I went through a similar situation. My son's yorkie gave birth to four males, first time pregnancy. I studied all I could find and rushed to her aid when my son called. I too am an RN but this was all new. I kept the whelping bed warm with a heating pad on low, heat lamp above, the puppies cannot maintain body heat very well and some will die if not given additional heat. I gave mom vanilla ice cream between pups for the protein and sugar plus she loved me for it. After everything was over (it all went well) we left her alone with the pups and she did so well. Good Luck and please post the outcome.

Bella had her puppiesHi, Bella had a total of six pups but one died, so we have 3 girls and 2 boys. She did EVERYTHING herself, I only broke one sac because they came so close together. After the birth I attempted to leave her alone but I kept having to peek. I too offered Bella vanilla ice cream and she loved it! She has not left her puppies side except once to urinate so I have been hand feeding her and giving her water. She has been licking and licking the puppies, I keep trying to coax her into laying on her side but she will not, I am worried about them nursing, I keep putting them to her stomach usually one or two will latch on OMG.......LOL and my daughter(in med school) made everything so dramatic, I finally told her to please go sit down in the other room.

Our Cabella had puppies too!Our Cabella had puppies Dec 5. She had 2 girls 4 boys. The smallest was a boy at 4oz and the largest was two boys at 6.5 oz. Mom is 11 lbs and dad is 6 lbs so I don't know how big these guys might get. They are sooo cute. and Cabella is a great mom. We took her to the vet Saturday morning and they gave her a shot to help produce more milk. We also got some powdered goats milk to have on had just in case we need it. Its off to the vet tomm to get tails docked and dew claws removed. Let me know how your litter gets along

bella's babiesIt sounds like you did very well as a midwife. Do you know why the one pup died? That was a large litter that she had. If the puppies do not get to nursing soon, call your vet. Good Luck and keep me up to date on the babies.

Congratulations to the new mommies...My Chinkie is due any day now..she is at 61 one days. She just sleeps all day but has to be where ever I am at. I have been monitoring her temp for the past week and it has fluctuated so much that it really doesn't help much. I'm waiting for the nesting sign, though she had never done that before also. LOL.. It will all just come as a surprise, I can't wait!!!

good luck ChinkieYou will have to let us know how she does. Cabella's temp didn't work either and she didn't "nest". She threw up two mornings before she had her puppies, the only thing she did that was different was she got in my recliner and stayed all day and evening. I sat on the couch and she would just look at me like "I'm happy here, don't bug me"PLEASE!!! She didn't even go into the Kennel that day. She had the puppies in my fairly new recliner!!! Oh well, she was comfortable at least!HAHA! She is a great mom and the babys are already developing individual personalities. This is only the 3rd day, tails were docked, dew claws removed today, I DON'T EVER WANT TO DO THIS AGAIN!!! I was in tears, Cabella wasn't happy either. I think Yorkies would look great with tails!!!! I shouldn't have went into the room, and of all things the doc asked me a question and I looked at him just as he snipped the tail off, how terrible I done this to them, but the vet said no one would buy them without it being done. I love the ears and face the most. Anyways I guess you guys will go through it to, just don't look! They have been fussy this evening, I guess the experience taught them pain and disconfort. I noticed Cabella looks to have tape worms again so now its back to the vet. Should she still have diaraha? It's problally the worms though. Good luck everyone

Pleaes help......Any ideas will be usefulYesterday we took Bella's pups to the Vet, they got their tails docked and weighed...all are 6 ounces except one girl she is 5 ounces. Bella's breeder said for us to bring mom and one of us sit outside with her and for the other on to check in and then sit in the truck with the pups until the Vet was ready for them, then bring them in. Her breeder also said for us to go back with the pups which made sense to me. In any case when we made the appointment(this is a new Vet because I moved), we explained what was said to us by the breeder, we were told we would be able to bring mom. Yesterday morning the vets office called and changed the appointment twice, then said we should not bring mom, so I stayed home with Bella and my daughter took the pups, my daughter was told she had to drop off the pups, she was not allowed into the exam room. My daughter called me frantic and explained that if she did not drop the pups off they would not be seen. At this point I told her to bring the pups in and drop them off, because we already took them away from Bella and we were on time constraints as far as docking their tail, needless to say I was not very happy!!!!!! It was never explained as to why we had to drop them off and not stay with them through their exam. When they got home Bella was fine with them, my daughter and I left to go to the store and when we got back a pup was missing, we found her across the room, we put her back with Bella and everything seemed fine until this morning......Bella came into my room about six am she wanted me to open EVERY door, and cabinet in the house so she could sniff around I even had to pick her up and let her sniff on top of the dresser. She is acting really really weird........I called her breeder and was told that Bella might be trying to move her pups and I need to "lock" her up with the pups as she has not spent a lot of time with them since 6am. I have never locked Bella up! I wonder if she is acting like this because we took her babies to the vet........ I called the Vet and I am waiting for a call back. I just do not know what to do at this point!!!

The Vets office called backThe vets office said that maybe Bella does not know how to be a mom as this is her first litter, the office also said DO NOT lock her up unsupervised(which I had no intention of doing) Bella never left her pups before yesterday so I can not understand how she can go from being excellent to "not knowing how to be a mom".... In any case if my and/or my daughter sit with her she will let the babies nurse, if we come downstairs she comes down shortly after us and barks then she will go back up the stairs........I dont know if she wants the babies moved or if she wants us to sit with her all the time.
