Last night my yorkie, Max, was attacked by a cat. He was scratch and bit. He bled last night and I instantly hurried and cleaned him up. I then took him a bath and washed him with antibactirial soap. After his bath I put neosporin on his scratches and bite. It didn't bleed anymore after that. The area did get swollen and red. He's able to walk and jump ... (He can't sit still sometimes ... his usual self) but he is been laying around. I'm sure he sore. Should I just keep an eye on it??? Any suggestions????

Cat bitesCatbites are the #1 worst bite for infection. Although washing will help, it is possible that as the exterior of the wound will close. This can cause an abcess under the skin. Area can become red and/or swoolen. Usually an antibiotic works good for this, amoxidrops is often vets drug of choice. You can tell if there is an infection often by feeling the puncture site 2-3 times daily to check for swoolen "lump" under the tissue. Sometimes this abcess will be red and hot, But not always. How long after the bite was this? If it was immediatly after the attack, the most likely cause of lethargy is stress. If it has been 12 to 24 hrs. after the attack, but your baby was acting fine initally, then it could be more likely an infection. If you are unsure of a possible infection or problem, the best solution is to visit your vet! If you are unable to visit the vet immediatly, always give a call. Most offices are good at answering questions until they can get you in. Good luck with your baby!!! | |
