Dog time doesn't feel like work

Is it just me, or does the time we spend with our dogs or FOR our dogs not wear us out as much as other weekly chores?
I've had a full plate at work for months now, and every extra hour wears me down. But in my free time, any time spent on the dogs feels like recreation. It relaxes me.
I'm not just talking about quality time like walks. Last week, I had to fill out a bunch of paperwork, attend a 2-hour orientation and get bloodwork done at the hospital so Eddie can start his therapy dog work.
I kept thinking that it should have felt like "work," but it didn't. I loved moving ahead with this.
Maybe it's like any hobby. People spend countless hours drawing or gardening or whatever in their spare time. It's work, but when it's our passion it doesn't feel like it.
Then again, I've never really been much of a volunteer. Maybe that's what I'm finding rewarding. There's a sense of satisfaction in doing something for something other than money.
Hmmm.
