| ![]() Hi, I've been reading on the forums about when to get puppies spayed, and my Missy is only 5 and a half months, is that too young? She's approximately 4 lbs. and the appointment is for tomorrow. Also, should I request for pain meds to bring home, my vet's assistant said she should be fine and won't need meds when she gets home. They said I have to drop her off at 8am and pick her up after 5:30pm. Is she allowed to eat after, is there anything special I have to do for her, like keep her in her crate so she doesn't run or jump around? Much appreciated.

| ![]() Autumn was spayed at 6 months. I don't think that the two week difference is a big deal. Autumn came home w/pain med but it was more for her ten teeth she had pulled. Make sure you keep your baby from running and jumping for a couple of days. My vet did her stitches internal so they had me put warm compresses on the site twice a day. good luck and keep us posted. ![]() |

| ![]() Friday was just spayed on 4-27 ... she was 5 months and 11 days old, and weighs 3 lbs. So 5 1/2 months does not seem too young for me. She is healing well, trying to jump around like a chimpanzee ... She did not have disolvable sutures, so we go back on the 11th of May for removable. I have had to keep her from the stitches. Vet said she is licking them b/c they itch ... I got this really great "healing band" from www.pocomut.com and it keeps Friday from licking or getting near the stitches ... she has the E-collar but it weighs more than she does, or so it seems. So I prefer the "healing band". Good Luck!

LOL) Missy also doesn't have all her baby teeth out... so i think i'll have to get those pulled too... hopefully she won't be in too much pain... my bf just went through a heart procedure, he just got home... and is on bed rest... now Missy is having her spayed done, this weekend will be quite a tough one for me!!! Wish me luck... i'll keep ya posted!

| ![]() hahah, same exact age --- Friday was born 11-16-06. My vet said hez letting her baby teeth fall out on their own. He did my first Yorkie's spay (Monday, shez 4.5 now) and we had no problem with her teeth at all ... but each baby is different ... so I just hope this is the right thing to do. He gave me 4 days medicine for her (it was something called metacam, and I looked it up, itz a non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug) but she seems fine. I just worry aboiut her licking her stitches .... but these babies are stronger than we are at times. Good luck tomorrow ... let me know how it all goes for Missy And I hope your boyfriend is doing okay also ... . ![]()

| ![]() Thanks for your concern... and your best wishes... I picked up Missy, and the vet said she was all good! Now that she's home, she's definitely not herself... she seems insecure, and wants to stay beside me or my boyfriend... which of course, we don't mind one bit... we do feel so sad for her... she also has the cone around her head as well... she seems scared of every little noise... she jumps when the phone rings, when the kettle boils, i have no idea why... One other thing is, she was completely perfectly pee pad trained before the surgery, now she's missing the pad completely!!! does anyone know what that's about?? she's going close to the area, but totally missing the pad, and going right beside it on the tile... so basically, i don't know why she's so scared when noise comes around, or why she's missing the pee pad... any insight would be greatly appreciated! PS - the vet didn't give us meds to take home, as well, he suggested we don't pull out the baby teeth yet, as it seems the adult ones haven't come up yet... so he said for us to wait a bit..

| ![]() I tired going on that link yesterday, but it wasn't available... but it works now... where is the healing band, i'm having trouble finding it... if i order it, how long would it take to get here? i live in Toronto Canada... i've ordered stuff online from the states before, and it takes over a week at the fastest... Missy is good today, she's spunky again!! lol My bf is slowly recouping..he's on blood thinners, so his surgery wound isn't closing well... and i have to inject him with blood thinners for the first 5 days... whew that today is the last day!! anyway, he's bruising very easily right now, just the tape around the wound has caused him to bruise really bad... mentally he's fine... he says he's not in pain, but he can't walk well... they went through his groin and neck to get to his heart... and everytime he does start to walk, it opens up the wound again... so it's a little frustrating... i took a lot of time off work... like a little over a week so that he can just lay down and only get up for food... as soon as we started that, the wound has closed up... it tough, cuz he's only 29 years old... way too young!!! Wow, Friday's e-collar is HUGE!!! lol she's too cute!

| ![]() Bella had the spay surgery about a week and a half ago. Everything is good with her; but she is licking her incision ALOT now; because I'm sure it's itchy. I brought her into the vet again and they re-glued it. and this weekend she opened it again. It's almost healed, but every time she does this it gets worse. I am sooo afraid of infection. And the vet says she is too tiny for an Ecollar. My advice try to keep your baby away from her stitches. I wish I had bought one of those bands from pocomutt. I didn't even see them. ![]()

| ![]() Well, Missy does have an e-collar, I've attached a pic of her... yesterday I felt bad for her since she was banging into everything... but today, i guess she's getting used to it.
