I just made 'the appointment' for Snickers to get neutered.....

I felt bad for the girl on the phone, cause I just asked her a thousand questions, but I'm happy with what I learned about their procedures.

I have to drop him off on Tuesday at 4pm for pre op blood work & stuff. Surgery is on Wednesday & he can come home on thursday.

The only thing I'm a little concerned with is that he has to spend the night on Tuesday (I'll miss him & he'll be so lonely there) rather than me bring him back Wednesday morning. And...they do not have an overnight technician, but rather someone who comes in every few hours. I guess if his surgery is early on Wednesday then he'll be over with the 'danger zone' by Wednesday night when the staff leaves....right??

The anestesia that they use is cebephlorine (which I know is spelled wrong cause I can't find it in a google search). Anyone heard of it?

wow... when I brought my boy to be neutered it was sooo very easy, on him & on me. He went in at 8am, I went to work, at 12pm they called to tell me he was done and coming out of anesthia, at 5pm I went to pick him up after work and they said he ate, drank, peed and pooped and he is still a little out of it, but fine. I took him home and he was like a little wild man! I dont know if the meds made him active, but he would NOT sit or lay down! I was nervous bc my vet uses skin glue, not stitches, so I was afraid he would bust open, but he didnt! He was a bit sore but overall he did soooo very well! and it was not overnight, thank goodness!

See, I thought it was a much quicker process too.....more like what you describe. I only live about 5 miles from the vet, so when I take him in on Tuesday, I'm going to ask if I can just bring him back in the morning. I'm also going to ask if I can sign some type of waiver to bring him home the evening after the surgery. There are two emergency vets close by & I would definately keep a close eye on him in case of any problems & that would be better then him being checked every few hours.

Wow, that would be tough to leave him all that time. I took Cooper in at 7:00am, they did the preop bloodwork that morning, and then I picked him up about 5:00. He was groggy and laid in my lap all evening, but I am glad I got to pick him up, I'm not sure I could have left him overnight. Also, after I dropped him off that morning, I was so upset and my husband told me to go and get him

. I am glad I didn't, it was the best thing to do, but oh so hard!! Good luck, it is very nerve-wracking, but it is for the best if your not breeding! Oh, yes, he was pretty much back to his usual self the next day. They even sent home pain med, just in case, and he didn't need it.

The recommended anesthia for these little guys are Isoflorine or sevoflorine. I have not heard of the one you mention.

When JoJo was neutered, it was also a one day deal. The pre-op was done a few weeks prior to the surgery. The morning of they told me to bring in him between 8 and 9 am and I got the call midday he was fine and could be picked up after 4:00 pm. He was a little tired the first night and next day, but bounced back pretty quick. His stitches dissolved and he didn't need a cone although he tried licking the wound a few times but we just kept our eye on him.

I can't imagine this procedure involving 3 days!
