Default Spayed Tomorrow - Quick Question

My 7 month old girl is getting spayed tomorrow ad I have the option to let her stay overnight at the vet, no charge. Should I let her stay or pick her up. I'll miss her, but I don't want her to be able to fall off the bed or anything at night and mess something up.

Give me some plus/minuses etc.

It is your choice sometimes the Vet wants to keep them overnight but there is usually no one there with them. I brought both my male and female home and they were fine. My female was a little out of it but i would rather her be with me then by herself.

Lucy stayed overnight at the vet, but he had someone there overnight.

My vet has always let me bring mine home after surgery. But his office was a mile away and he lived close to me. Sometimes they are pretty groggy all night and very unsteady. I just put them in the crate and sleep on the floor next to them until they wake up and can walk without tipping over. I don't think it matters to the dog but it sure makes me feel better.

Topher came home with me. I picked him up as soon as he woke up and he slept all the way home and was groggy for an hour or so but after that was just a bit on the slow side for the rest of the day. By the next morning he was back to his old self.

It's your own choice. Is there someone who stays at the vet office all night caring for the animals or do they just go in every once and a while to check on them? I'd want to know this before I made my decision, I think.

My vet insists on keeping them overnight. I think she keeps them pretty groggy and in the kennel to keep them from doing more than they should. The decision is not negotiable at all. If you want to take them home right after surgery, she will not do the surgery.

Maybe you could make her an area that is smaller and quieter and away from the traffic in your house so that she can rest undisturbed? If it were me, I would want her home and supervised vs at a vet's office alone.

Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Kallie stayed at the vet all day and I picked her up that evening.......she was so glad to see us. She did fine but each dog is different and what might be the right thing for my dog might not be right for yours............haven't I been just a "big" help!

I changed vets because they would not let me bring Peanut home the same day. My breeder told me not to let him stay the night and she works for a vet. Peanut was neutered on Nov. 17th came home and did great. Everyone told me they do so much better when they are home and not in a strange place.

When both my girls got spayed, no one was there to watch them overnight. So I insisted on bringing them home. I put a blow up bed on the floor & slept there with them. They were both so groggy I wanted them close to the floor. They usually sleep with my husband & I, but our bed is to high & I didn't want them to fall off. I slept with them for 3 days on the floor to watch them. They were back to their old self the next day, but I kept them medicated for pain & to keep them from running around for 3 days. Then I put a baby snap t shirt on them at night so they couldnt lick the stitches. During the day I watched them closely. I hated the collar the vet gave me for them to wear. They kept hitting things with it. Good luck.

If no one is at the vet's office overnight, what is the point of leaving your baby there alone? If I were faced with that decision (and I soon will be), I would bring her home and keep her in her ex-pen and crate during the early recovery time.

Abbie's vet policy is "send the small ones home" when they've recovered; because no one is there overnight. Personally, I can't understand why someone can't be with surgery patients over night. Surely the hosptial/clinic is making enough to pay someone just to watch pets entrusted to them.

Of course, if I had not been able to bring Abbie home that day - I probably would have given serious thought about going through w/the spaying. Too many things can happen post-surgery, for pets to be left alone.

Both of mine came home the same day after the anesthetic wore off. They were fine. I wouldn't want to leave them overnight because I would miss them too much and worry that they missed us too. I think they recovered better at home with us. If you bring them home you just have to watch that they dont jump around a lot at first. Mine jumped a bit but it is almost impossible to stop every jump. If you feel better leaving them though you probably should.

If someone is there to watch her I would rather her be supervised by a professional just in case... however if she was going to stay alone then I would absolutely bring her home... how scary.... I will be doing the same in March!

OK, I'm off to the vet. If there is no one there overnight, she'll def be coming home.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm sure my little girl will do fine!
